Universal Studios Japan in Osaka was fun. It's best to arrive early and see everything, but it can be a bit overwhelming if it's too hot.

This is a great park. Lots of great rides and attractions - only problem is that to get on the rides, without being in lines for hours, you need to pay more for Express passes - and even then on a lot of rides, there’s still long waits….. the Nintendo area was jam packed, you can hardly move. Harry Potter area isn’t much better. Some rides had a 4 hour wait!! We had lunch in the Jaws area and it was really good! Good day, but without Express passes, pretty tough going… also a bunch of rides have mock carriages to check for size and most wouldn’t take larger passengers

The best deal I've ever used: 5000 yen for two days of unlimited subway rides. I visited Osaka Castle, took the Gozasen ferry, went to Tsutenkaku Tower and Shitennoji Temple, and took the Dotonbori sightseeing boat in the evening. The entrance fees to the attractions alone exceeded the face value of the ticket. I took the subway 12 times over two days; without the ticket, it would have cost 2500 yen. Even though I only visited a few attractions, it was still very worthwhile.

A full day is more than enough for an in-depth tour of Osaka! The only exception is the section of the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Line to Katsuo-ji Temple (Esaka ➡️ Minoh-Kayano), which requires an additional fee of ¥240. This was for two people, so both of our QR codes will be on the same phone. Your travel companion will enter the station first, and then the person with the phone will scan their code to enter!
