I think Bubble is a must-see; the views are breathtaking! Overall, everything is magnificent, except for the Chinese lines—they're long and there are a lot of them. Get a ticket here on Trip so you can at least avoid the queue at the entrance.

How to Get to Canton Tower?

How to Get to Canton Tower?

1. By Metro (The Easiest and Most Efficient Way)

Guangzhou’s metro system is clean, efficient, and super easy to get around. Here’s how to do it:

  • Take Metro Line 3 and hop off at Chigang Pagoda Station (赤岗塔站).
  • Use Exit B—it’s literally a stone’s throw away from the tower. You’ll step out of the station and BAM, there it is, towering above you in all its glory.

Pro Tip: If you’re staying near the city center, Line 3 is super convenient. Plus, the metro is air-conditioned (a lifesaver in Guangzhou’s humid weather).

2. By APM Line (For a Fun Little Ride)

If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, try the APM Line (Automated People Mover). It’s a driverless train, and kids (and let’s be honest, adults too) love it. The APM also stops at Chigang Pagoda Station, so you can combine practicality with a mini joyride.

3. By Train (If You’re Coming from Another City)

If you are going to come to Guangzhou by train, here are what you should do,

  • It takes about 10 minutes to drive from Guangzhou East Railway Station to Canton Tower.
  • It's a bit far from Guangzhou South Railway Station (about a 30-minute drive).

Tip: Book a taxi or use Didi Chuxing to avoid the trouble of looking for a car at the station.

4. By Taxi or Ride-Hailing (For Comfort and Convenience)

If you are traveling with a team or simply prefer door-to-door service, taxis and ride-hailing apps like Didi are good choices. Just tell the driver "Guangzhou Ta (广州塔)" (which is the local name), and they will know where to go. Avoid peak hours (7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.) unless you want to spend extra time in traffic. The roads in Guangzhou will become extremely busy!

5. By Air (For International or Domestic Travelers)

Fly to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport? No worries! The tower is about a 30-minute drive from the airport. You can hail a taxi, book a private pick-up service, or take the airport shuttle to the city center and then transfer to the subway. If you haven't adjusted to the jet lag yet and just want to relax, then book a private shuttle. It's worth it after a long flight!

What to Prepare for a Trip to China?

  • Visa & Entry Tips China’s 240-hour visa-free transit policy now covers 54 countries, incl. the US, UK, Canada, and Brazil, allowing up to 10 days during layovers. Learn more about China Entry Tips to land in China easily.
  • Getting Connected VPNs are vital for accessing Google, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc in China. Set one up before arriving. China eSIMs are the easiest option for data and bypassing restrictions. Pocket Wi-Fi devices work best for group but are pricier and require pickup/return.
  • Money Exchange & Tax Refunds Exchange money in China banks (better rates than airports). ATMs accept foreign cards, but notify your bank first. For tax refunds, spend over ¥500 at stores with a "Tax-Free" sign. Keep receipts and get forms stamped at customs before departure.

Must-Have Apps in China

  • China Payment Apps Forget cash. Chinese use Alipay (I like it better) or WeChat Pay to pay for everything in China. Scan a QR code at noodle stalls, metros, even temples. Link your foreign Visa/Mastercard before landing.
  • China Map Apps Amap (Gaode Map) & Baidu Map (limited English) is what locals use, with real-time navigation, metro/bus routes, and traffic updates. Apple Maps does a good job too if you're already an IOS user.
  • China Transport Apps Street taxis are cheap, but drivers rarely speak English. Use China Taxi App like DiDi (China’s Uber)—set your destination in English, pay by Alipay.
  • China Travel Apps 15+ China trips taught me: Use Trip.com. It's the best English app for booking China trains/flights/hotels + finds Trip.com deals.
  • China Dating Apps Locals use Tantan (China’s Tinder) and Momo. WeChat’s “People Nearby” works too, but expect language barriers unless your Mandarin’s decent.
  • China Food App Use Meituan (also helps find nearby restaurants) or Ele.me for food delivery—both have English mode. No English menu in restaurants? Scan the QR with Alipay's translator.
