Purchase Your WOWPASS Voucher (Pre-Trip)
- Buy a WOWPASS on Trip.com (or other authorized platforms) before your departure. You’ll receive a 6-digit verification code via email/SMS after checkout.
- This voucher lets you skip on-site lines for physical card issuance.
Redeem & Activate Your Card (In Korea)
Once you arrive, head to a WOWPASS kiosk (airports, subway stations, etc.) and follow these steps:
- Select your preferred language (e.g., English) on the kiosk screen.
- Tap “Issue New Card” and choose your initial top-up currency (USD, KRW, etc.).
- Scan your passport for identity verification.
- Select “I Have a Reservation Code” and enter your 6-digit Trip.com code.
- Load your initial funds (insert cash or use the app to transfer USD).
- Remove the physical card from the machine, then reinsert it to activate.
- Download the WOWPASS App, register your card, and you’re ready to use it.

Most importantly, it's very close to Lotte Duty Free, so after shopping, you can drop off your purchases at the hotel and continue shopping. It's also very near Myeongdong Food Street, making shopping incredibly convenient. The hotel even gave chocolates and a small dress to our child during check-in. However, one aspect we found disappointing was the strict minimum spending requirement per guest. Even at the Italian restaurant, we felt pressured to order both appetizers and main courses for the children. Let's start with the pros:
1. The hotel's location is excellent, right behind Shinsegae Department Store, and only about a 5-minute walk to Myeongdong shopping street.
2. There's a subway station downstairs, and the surrounding area offers plenty of dining, entertainment, and shopping options.
3. The hotel's style leans more towards medieval Baroque. If you're not particularly fond of this somewhat quirky decor, I'd suggest reconsidering. However, for a unique travel experience, this hotel is definitely a plus.
4. There are three Michelin-starred restaurants right on the hotel's upper floors, making it very convenient for food lovers.

I booked this room for 2300 a night with a friend. I saw some bloggers on Xiaohongshu saying the rooms were small and the ceilings were low, but honestly, it wasn't too bad (maybe because it was my first time staying at a 5-star hotel, so I don't know how good other 5-stars are). I'd recommend booking an afternoon tea on Naver. After checking in, change and enjoy afternoon tea. In the evening, the lobby has a total old money vibe, perfect for photos. If you're only staying one night, I highly recommend it, especially if you can get a good price!
We originally booked a room with a regular view, but the front desk offered us a Namsan view room, though it was next to the elevator. They asked if we were okay with it, and we immediately said yes. The location of New Seoul is excellent, with subway lines 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 nearby. There's a very enthusiastic woman at the front desk who speaks Chinese. You can only top up your Wowpass at the front desk, not your Tmoney. There's a conveniently located Olive Young not far from the hotel. Cheonggyecheon Stream is just a 3-5 minute walk away, perfect for an evening stroll. Gwanghwamun and Gyeongbokgung Palace are about a 15-minute walk, and you can exit through the side gate of Gyeongbokgung to reach Bukchon Hanok Village. The hotel is conveniently located right outside Gate 6001 of the airport bus stop (Hoehyeon Station), and there are subway entrances within a few minutes' walk in either direction. It's about a 15-minute walk to Myeongdong, which is a bit of a distance. There was a BBQ smell in the lower levels of the hotel, and I suspect the front desk assigns rooms based on nationality because the first thing I noticed upon entering my room was an unpleasant odor.
The hotel fridge had complimentary drinks, and the bedding was very comfortable. It's the quality you'd expect from an InterContinental hotel, and the housekeeping and service were excellent; they cleaned the room promptly and thoroughly every day.
Across from the hotel, at the entrance to Namdaemun Market, there's a rather simple restaurant that serves delicious knife-cut noodles. It was full of locals, and a small bowl was more than enough for a woman.FromUS$206

What I was most unhappy about was the thin older man at the front desk. His attitude was really stiff. I told him I'd clean up after myself and take the trash with me, but he just said NO! What's the problem with me eating fried chicken in a corner? The downside is that there were former employees striking outside the hotel the entire time. It seems this hotel treats its staff very poorly. The daily room cleaning was also done very late, probably because they laid off so many employees. For these reasons, I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
The location, however, is excellent. It's super convenient for getting to major shops in Myeongdong like Olive Young (though a bit far from the duty-free shop). The subway station is right downstairs, and there's also a very large 7-Eleven downstairs with spacious seating for instant noodles. Other stores like GS25 are also nearby, and a 12-story Daiso is just across the street. The hotel doesn't provide disposable dental kits, so you can just buy them directly from Daiso.
Myeongdong Cathedral is right behind the hotel, and there are quite a few historical attractions in the vicinity. Luggage storage is very convenient, and check-in is self-service.FromUS$126

This hotel was definitely a highlight of our trip to Korea! The quad room was super comfortable for our family of four; we all slept soundly without disturbing each other. The room was also spacious enough for the kids to move around freely. The cleaning staff always greeted us with a warm smile and a friendly hello. Plus, Myeongdong, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and Bukchon Hanok Village were all within walking distance. And having a washer/dryer in the room was incredibly convenient! I didn't encounter any front desk staff who spoke Chinese, but simple English communication was fine. The only downside was that for our last three nights, we had Chinese neighbors who were incredibly loud. The mall is also right downstairs, making it super easy to buy anything you need! Overall, we had a pleasant stay and would definitely recommend this hotel, especially because of the commendable service provided by the concierge and reception staff. Shout out to Manager Smith, the lady trainee and the friendly lady chef.
Entering the hotel was a little confusing at first as there are two sides to enter from. From the side we entered had to walk all the way to the end before taking the lift up to the 9th floor, where the hotel lobby is located (would be nice if they had some directory or stickers on the ground to direct us to the correct lift, we saw other guests being lost too). It was also quite difficult to book a taxi directly outside the hotel. Even when we set the pick-up location as Stanford Hotel, some taxi stopped at Ibis Hotel instead. This is something to take note of, especially when travelling with elderly guests, as they may have to walk further to reach the pick-up point.
We stayed in a Family Twin Room and added an extra bed. The room became quite cramped with the additional bed, but was otherwise comfortable. As we were travelling with elderly family members, one downside was that the bathroom only came with a bathtub, with no option for just a ground level standing shower. However, when we asked the receptionist for assistance, they kindly found a stool for us and brought it directly to our room, which we really appreciated.
There were also a few minor issues with the room. Our room phone could not dial housekeeping directly, so we had to contact the reception instead. The toilet bowl also clogged quite easily during our stay, it happened twice, so I would recommend being careful not to use too much toilet paper.
Happy that the hotel had quite a few convenient facilities. There was a laundry room on level 10, snacks available for purchase at the hotel lobby, and even a luggage weighing scale right in front of the lobby, which was very useful before our flight. There is also an Olive Young directly below the hotel, which was great.
There were a few dining options on Level 9 as well, including a bar and a breakfast/coffee area. We tried the hotel breakfast and enjoyed it. There was a nice variety of food. Definitely not the extensive assortment you might expect from a five-star hotel, but still more than enough for an enjoyable breakfast. They even had a croffle station.
The lady chef at breakfast was also very friendly and would often greet us when we arrive and again when we left. These may seem like small gestures, but they really go a long way in making guests feel welcomed. Hotel guests also received 10% off breakfast, which was a nice benefit. On days when we were tired and did not feel like heading out early, it was convenient to simply stay in the hotel and have breakfast there instead.
One thing to note is that breakfast closes strictly at 10am. If you are still eating past the closing time, the staff may remind you to finish up quite quickly, so I would recommend going down earlier if you prefer a more leisure breakfast.
What stood out most during our stay was the service. The concierge and reception staff were extremely helpful and often went beyond their usual duties to make sure we were well taken care of. When we encountered an issue ordering food delivery, they assisted us with the order. On another occasion, we needed help rescheduling an appointment, the trainee kindly helped us contact them when the place opened and rearrange it for a later time.
We also ran into some issues regarding our check-out, and thankfully, Manager Smith stepped in and helped us resolve the situation.
Despite the few inconveniences, the thoughtful and attentive service made our stay a positive one. The little gestures from the staff, together with the convenient facilities, made a difference, particularly as we were travelling with elderly family members. It was also nice that there were many great food places near the hotel, within 3-10min walk. We would definitely recommend staying here.FromUS$227

I had actually noticed this hotel before. I used to stay at a hotel nearby and even came into this one specifically to take photos with the super-sized Brown bear in the lobby. So, before this trip, I made sure to look it up, and to my surprise, I was lucky enough to book a themed room! They said it would be a random rabbit or bear theme, but I was so fortunate to get my favorite Brown bear themed room.
Check-in was at 3 PM, but I arrived at 2:20 PM and they actually let me check in early. The hotel staff were all very enthusiastic and always greeted me politely when I entered or left.
The themed rooms are all on the 14th floor, and as soon as you step out of the elevator, you're greeted by adorable plushies. The room itself was incredibly cute, like stepping into a fairy tale and becoming good friends with Brown bear. The giant Brown bear on the sofa was super cute, and I also loved the blue sofa, though it showed some signs of age.
The room facilities were all great, especially the TV channels – there were so many! For someone like me who loves to stay in the hotel, this was fantastic. There were even three or four channels with Chinese dramas, and even more movies and Korean dramas.
The bathroom facilities were also good. I really liked that the bathtub and shower were separate; I don't like showering while standing in a tub. The only downside was that the exhaust fan was a bit noisy.
I also have to praise their housekeeping speed. At other hotels, sometimes you put up the 'clean my room' sign and it doesn't get cleaned for hours, but here, it was always done very quickly and was spotlessly clean. I was particularly satisfied with this.FromUS$134

1. MYEONGDONG-Everything is at Myeongdong including the banana milk at Olive Young; Laneige stores, a thrift store; the food street with the new crocs-style cake, chicken skewers; and great Korean fried chicken 🍗, tteokbokki and fishcakes, and the marshmallow ice cream.
2. The tourist information centre is about 200m from the hotel. Here, you get information and maps and overall clear direction. The staff is very helpful.
3. Great restaurants like KUT (quite literally around the corner), and a Michelin restaurant about 400m away as well as salad bar and coffee shops.

The actual hotel and room:
The hotel was very easy to find and the receptionist was helpful. The food was nice; there was enough veggies and the eggs smelled alright. They did not have a tea selection unfortunately but the soup tasted quite nice although I am not sure what it was-maybe creamed corn and potato.
The room was alright and looked just as pictured but it initially smelled like a rat died on the rug(that could be because it had no windows and felt a bit suffocating but the developing plot area beside the hotel kinda also smelled like that). It became less obvious on day 2.

During this stay, we booked a triple room. Worried that the kids might roll off the beds while sleeping, we pushed two of the beds together ourselves. To our surprise, the housekeeping staff noticed this arrangement the next day during cleaning and thoughtfully changed it to a large bed sheet suitable for combined beds. This completely eliminated the gap between the two beds, so we no longer had to worry about anyone getting stuck in the middle. This thoughtful gesture from the housekeeper exceeded our expectations and the attention to detail was truly heartwarming. The original showerhead in the bathroom was a bit worn out, but after we reported it to the front desk, a maintenance person came up very quickly to replace and fix it. The location offers a quiet retreat amidst the hustle and bustle—it's just a 7-8 minute walk to the main Myeongdong shopping district, and Gyeongbokgung Palace is only two or three subway stops away. There are a few convenience stores right downstairs, which is very convenient. Finally, they even helped me find my lost plush toy, and I was able to arrange a courier service for it myself. Let's start with the positives, which are truly hard to ignore – the location is absolutely fantastic. It's right at the end of Myeongdong's main street, so stepping out means diving straight into the shopping crowds. To the right, you'll find the Olive Young Myeongdong flagship store, and across the street, there's Starbucks, Sushiro, and a CU convenience store. You'll never have to worry about finding late-night snacks or drinks. The hotel's public areas are also quite aesthetically pleasing.
Transportation is also hassle-free. From the airport, you can take the 6015 luxury airport limousine bus directly to ”Seoul Royal Hotel/Euljiro 1-ga Station.” The stop is very close to the hotel. Just walk a few steps with your luggage, turn right at the small intersection, and walk up a slight incline for about a dozen meters, and you're there. However, a word of caution: during the peak summer season, there are a lot of people waiting for the bus. On our day, we queued outdoors for over an hour, hot and sunny, sweating non-stop. If you're traveling with elderly people or children, be prepared for this.
Now, about the actual stay. The room was indeed on the smaller side, and with the summer peak season prices, the value for money wasn't great. The facilities show their age. What impacted our sleep the most was the refrigerator, which had noticeable noise. We ended up unplugging it both nights to get some peace and quiet. Also, on weekend evenings, the street music played until midnight. If you have high demands for your sleeping environment, I'd advise considering this carefully.
In summary: if you're prioritizing convenient shopping and don't mind a small or dated room, spending most of your day out and just returning to sleep at night, then this place is a great fit. But if room comfort, a quiet environment, and value for money are more important to you, then you might want to compare a few more options.

Last year when I came to Seoul, I also stayed in the Mapo area, specifically at the L'Escape Hotel, which was across from the Garden Hotel. This time, when I was planning my trip to Seoul, L'Escape didn't have the room type I wanted, so I chose the Garden Hotel instead. The location of this hotel is actually excellent; the airport bus stops right outside. However, since I was trying to save money and used my climate card for the airport line, I couldn't take advantage of that convenience. My main reason for choosing it was still the Garden Hotel's location. The hotel is situated between Gongdeok Station and Mapo Station, making transportation very convenient. You can reach most major attractions and commercial areas by subway. Plus, it's not as bustling as the Myeongdong area, so it's much quieter at night. There are also plenty of dining options nearby: various coffee shops, burger joints, pork soup with rice, ginseng chicken soup, ox bone soup, Korean BBQ, sushi restaurants – basically everything you could want to eat. It's also not far from the Seoul Station City Tower. Getting to The Hyundai Seoul in Yeouido is also super easy, just two subway stops away. I stayed in a deluxe double room by myself, and I found the size to be perfectly fine. The service was good too; the male receptionist during check-in was very enthusiastic and had a great attitude. I stayed for 5 days, and only one day the cleaning was finished as late as 3 PM; the other days it was done quickly. If I had to pick a flaw, it would be that the decor and furnishings definitely reflect the style of an older star-rated hotel, unlike the more modern L'Escape. First, the good points: The location is great, convenient for the subway, airport bus, and shopping. The room was also tidy and slightly larger than typical Japanese hotels.
Now, the bad: The staff's attitude was terrible 👎🏾. They overcharged for early check-in/late check-out.
I arrived at the hotel at 9 AM local time today. Since I hadn't slept all night on a red-eye flight, I asked the front desk if I could pay for an early check-in. The receptionist immediately told me: ”You can check in at 10 AM, but it will cost 66,000 KRW.” (There was absolutely no miscommunication! The receptionist showed me the number on a calculator!) I felt that paying almost a full night's rate for just a few hours early was clearly unreasonable, so I gave up on checking in and went out to work, despite my exhaustion. (At the time, I even tried to negotiate a discount, but the receptionist told me that was the fixed price.) Later, when I checked in normally at 6:30 PM, the hotel provided an ”Check-in Guide” which clearly stated in black and white: Early check-in / Late check-out will incur an additional charge of 11,000 KRW per hour.
This means: They inflated the price in the morning and deliberately didn't mention the hourly rate until guests saw the clear pricing standard for the first time during evening check-in.
What's even more ironic is that when I asked about late check-out in the evening, the staff still just mechanically repeated: ”11,000 KRW per hour,” showing no awareness that there was any issue with the information provided in the morning.
It's not that they can't charge, it's that they shouldn't charge *like this*. Because I complained to Trip.com and reported the issue to the hotel manager that same night, the next day at check-out, the staff member who quoted me the price had a 180-degree change in attitude compared to yesterday. Their face showed their displeasure directly – this is South Korean service for you.
I strongly advise against this hotel for travelers who are sensitive about rules, have tight schedules, or need flexible check-in times. Be cautious and avoid this place.FromUS$101

The facilities are pretty basic, and the service was just average, nothing special. Overall, the location and cleanliness justify the price. We stayed at Aloft by Marriott Myeongdong for 5 nights. The location is unbeatable - convenient 5 mins walk to the main Myeongdong shopping and eating area. Around 7 minutes walk to Lotte Department Store and Shinsegae. The staff at front desk are all very courteous and nice. The rooms are clean and tidy. One thing though they will not touch our personal things in the bathroom, such as my hair curler was laying on top of some dirty towels and upon returning to my room, my curler and the dirty towels were left at the same spot. But their service is excellent - the first night we stayed the air-con was too hot and changing the thermostat did not work. So we called reception and stated the issue. They promptly sent a technician up to help fix the air-con, which afterwards worked fine, and the rooms were cool and we all slept very well. There's not a whole lot of facilities except a small gym though. Overall, a very nice stay at this hotel where the staff are attentive and nice, and they all speak fluent English. The hotel's location is great. Exit 10 of Myeongdong Station is the closest, and Exit 4 has an elevator, which is convenient for luggage. The airport bus also goes directly there, and it's about a 3-5 minute walk from the stop. The hotel is close to Shinsegae Duty Free, while Lotte Duty Free is about a 12-minute walk away. Just across the street is the Myeongdong shopping area.
The room is quite spacious; you can open two large suitcases at the same time. There's a fridge, kettle, and other amenities, but you need to bring your own toiletries. The bathroom has a separate wet and dry area, which is a big plus.
You can see N Seoul Tower from the hotel's rooftop, but unfortunately, it rained for two days. The rooftop spa can be booked in advance, perfect for relaxing after a day of shopping. The Shilla Seoul is by far the most comfortable hotel I stayed at during this trip to Seoul. Having had a great experience at the Jeju Shilla previously, I wanted to see how the Seoul property would compare. The bedding was comfortable, and the shower had fantastic water pressure—the kind where you can actually have a proper shower. They use Dyson hair dryers instead of the old-fashioned ones, which was quite nice. As for the service, the staff all had rather professional, practiced smiles; I just wish they could be a bit warmer to Chinese guests! I loved the smoked salmon at The Library bar—it was insanely delicious with top-notch quality, plus it came with my beloved dill! We ate it for several days in a row! The live singers, both male and female, were quite good and created a great atmosphere! However, a middle-aged male waiter with glasses at the bar was rather snobbish and treated Chinese guests differently. Also, the legendary pastries from the bakery were, in my opinion, quite mediocre. On the downside, the pillows were much too high, which could easily give you a stiff neck. The room rates have gone up a bit ridiculously. You don't need an adapter to charge your devices, and there are plenty of outlets in the room, which is a big plus! The room was great, located on the 23rd floor with a stunning lake view. When I booked, I selected a three-person meal option for two adults and one child. The price for a two-person meal and a three-person meal was different at the time of booking. However, upon arrival, the hotel informed me that one of the meals in my three-person package was a complimentary children's meal. Since my child is 13 years old, exceeding the 12-year age limit, they were not eligible for the free buffet breakfast, and I was asked to pay. To avoid disrupting our travel plans and mood, I paid for the meal. However, I find this explanation completely unacceptable. I purchased a three-person meal package, but at the hotel, it was treated as if I bought two meals and received one free. If I had known it was a complimentary meal from the hotel, why would I not just book the two-person meal package and save some money?! There are also plenty of dining options, including fried chicken, soup, and Korean BBQ. The hotel reception is on the 3rd floor, and they can speak simple Chinese. The lobby offers free coffee and water. On the 3rd floor, there's a self-service laundry room for 4,000 KRW per use, and further inside, a self-service luggage storage area. The room was cleaned daily, and my stay was very quiet and comfortable! I stayed at the Four Points by Sheraton Josun, Seoul Myeongdong for one night before flying out of ICN. My only requirement was that the hotel have easy access to the airport limousine route. While there is a stop a few steps from the hotel, we found that, given the time of our flight the following morning, we ultimately needed to use a different stop. We trekked the extra 10 minutes in the morning with our luggage, which was less than ideal, but ultimately worked out fine. The hotel was easy to access, tucked into a quiet corner of Myeongdong. While we arrived quite late in the evening, the staff was glad to receive us. The check-in instructions were simple and easy. We received a room on the 20th (I think) floor with a lovely view of the city. It was clean and well-appointed with space for four suitcases, which was necessary as we prepared to depart Korea with many new purchases. The famous Myeongdong walking street was only a 7-minute walk away, which is a major selling point. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a solo traveler, a pair, or a couple. This hotel is super convenient, located near a subway station, making getting around a breeze, especially with luggage since there's an elevator. It's also close to Seongsu-dong, which is great for shopping.
Downstairs, there's a convenience store, and right next door, a 24-hour restaurant serving Korean-Chinese dishes like Jajangmyeon, Tangsuyuk, and seafood noodles.

Good experience over all. Very close to the Coex mall. Lobby is on 20 floor, which is different from others. Recently SamSung station has been remodeling, made it little noise when cars drive over the steel covered road. But it is reasonable price being in the center of Gangnam-gu. One of the pros was I made a reservation under my daugter's name, which I didn't recognised that time. they couldn't find the reservation a bit long time, and they was wrong where I booked it through.
