Wangxian Valley is a 4A-level scenic area in Wangxian Township, Guangxin District, Shangrao, Jiangxi Province. It sits at the northern foot of Lingshan Mountain, roughly 50 kilometers from Shangrao city center, with a total planned area of 6.1 square kilometers.

The site was originally an abandoned granite quarry. It opened to the public in 2020 after ecological restoration and cultural tourism development. Its defining features are the hanging Huizhou-style buildings built into 100-meter cliff faces, canyon streams with tiered waterfalls, and a restored Gan-style ancient village, giving the whole area a distinct Chinese fantasy mountain landscape feel.

Qianshan rice noodles are a local breakfast staple, with smooth rice noodles in a rich savory broth. Taro dumplings use taro-based dough skins served in a sour-spicy broth, with a firm, springy texture. Wangxian baked cakes are filled with preserved vegetable and pork, baked fresh on site with a crispy crust.
• Drinks and light bites: Freshly pressed kudzu root juice is a local specialty, lightly sweet and good for rehydration after hiking. Wangxian winter melon tea and crispy fried winter melon are popular summer refreshments. “Immortal fruit” is steamed five-eye fruit from the local mountains, sweet-sour and commonly eaten for digestion; the fruit pits can be strung into a bracelet as a souvenir. The Baihe Cliff complex sits on the west slope, while Yanpu Old Street and commercial areas line the east bank. All key sights are connected by streamside paths and mountain plank walkways. From my experience, a counterclockwise route avoids backtracking and has a gentler elevation gain, making for more manageable physical exertion.

1. One-day highlight route (day + night, best value)
   Enter through the main entrance at 16:00. Cross Qingyun Bridge for the first full cliff view → Walk upstream along the streamside path, passing Sandie Waterfall and the glass plank walkway → Arrive at Yanpu Old Street around 17:30 and have dinner on Baiwei Street → Wait at Lanyue Bridge around 18:30 for the lights to turn on, to catch the full sunset-to-night transition → Walk across Baige Bridge and Zuixian Bridge around 19:00 to explore the lit old street → Reach the Baihe Cliff viewing platform around 20:00 for the full night panorama, and catch folk performances along the way → Exit the park around 21:00 via the main path.
   Total walking time is about 4–5 hours with moderate intensity. It avoids midday heat and covers daytime scenery, sunset, and night views on a single ticket.
2. Full-day in-depth route
   Enter at 8:30 → Hike the full canyon trail to see Wangxian Waterfall and all stream-side scenery → Visit the Hu Clan Ancestral Hall and workshop street around 11:00, and join a hands-on craft activity → Have lunch on the old street at 12:30 → Visit Yang Mansion and the Three Gods Temple around 13:30, and browse shops on Lingguang Street → Climb to Baihe Cliff and Chaohe Tower around 15:00 for a full valley overlook → Wait for sunset at Lanyue Bridge around 17:30 → Watch night views and performances at 19:00 → Exit at 21:30.

   If you are already traveling in Wuyuan, you can book a combined one-day tour of Huangling and Wangxian Valley with Wuyuan departure. The package includes round-trip transport, admission tickets, and cable car access, with optional Chinese or English guide service. The full tour lasts about 8.8 hours, so you do not need to plan transport separately.
4. Two-day itinerary
   Arrive in the afternoon on day one, check in to accommodation inside the scenic area → Explore the old street, watch sunset and night views → Walk the nearly empty old street and misty valley between 7:00–9:00 on day two → Cover the remaining spots on the in-depth route in the morning → Check out and depart around noon.

All park lights turn on promptly at 18:30. The core night viewing window is 19:00–21:00, which is also the busiest period. If you stay inside the valley, 7:00–9:00 in the morning is the best time for photos — very few visitors, and the valley and old street look their best in the early morning mist.

Best Seasons

• Spring (March–May): One of the best periods to visit. Wild flowers bloom across the valley, temperatures stay between 15–25°C, and the air is humid and comfortable. Mist and cloud formations are common after rain, which strongly enhances the valley’s atmospheric feel.
• Autumn (September–November): Low rainfall, mostly sunny days, and cool temperatures. Mountain foliage takes on layered autumn colors, making it good for hiking and photography. Visitor numbers are also relatively moderate during this season.
• Summer (June–August): Dense vegetation keeps the valley 3–5°C cooler than the city, making it a viable nearby summer escape. Midday sun is strong, so I recommend entering in the afternoon. Summer-only canyon rafting is available during these months.
