I highly recommend coming here not only in the evening but also during the day to see the beauty of the valley and the river. I also highly recommend climbing higher at night. P.S. The moon is artificial.

The place is wonderful 😍 the views are gorgeous, everything is beautifully thought out. There are places to eat, the prices are average. However, it gets very crowded in the evening, so be prepared for that.

What Is Wangxian Valley

What Is Wangxian Valley

Wangxian Valley is a 4A-level scenic area in Wangxian Township, Guangxin District, Shangrao, Jiangxi Province. It sits at the northern foot of Lingshan Mountain, roughly 50 kilometers from Shangrao city center, with a total planned area of 6.1 square kilometers.

The site was originally an abandoned granite quarry. It opened to the public in 2020 after ecological restoration and cultural tourism development. Its defining features are the hanging Huizhou-style buildings built into 100-meter cliff faces, canyon streams with tiered waterfalls, and a restored Gan-style ancient village, giving the whole area a distinct Chinese fantasy mountain landscape feel.

The valley is divided into five functional zones: Jiuniu Stream Canyon Experience Area, Yanpu Old Street, Yuanding Peak Cultural Area, and Nanshan Wellness Resort Area. It combines sightseeing, folk culture experiences, casual vacation stays, and light outdoor activities.

How to Get to Wangxian Valley

Get to Wangxian Valley From Shanghai

  • High-speed train + direct shuttle: Take a high-speed train from Shanghai Hongqiao Station to Shangrao Station. The ride takes 2.5–3 hours, with second-class seats priced around 200–260 yuan. From the station, take the official scenic area shuttle bus for 25–30 yuan per person, with a 1–1.5 hour ride. Departures run from 8:00 to 16:15, and the last return bus leaves at 20:30. Tickets can be booked via the Ganyuexing platform. A taxi from the station costs roughly 120–160 yuan one way.
  • Self-drive: From downtown Shanghai, take the Shanghai-Kunming Expressway to the Deshang Expressway, exit at Bimu, and follow provincial roads to the valley. Total distance is about 480 kilometers, driving time 5.5–6 hours. The valley has a large public parking lot, charging 10 yuan per day.

Get to Wangxian Valley From Hangzhou

  • High-speed train + direct shuttle: Take a high-speed train from Hangzhou East Station to Shangrao Station. The ride takes 1.5–2 hours, with second-class seats priced around 120–180 yuan. Transfer options from the station are identical to the Shanghai route: scenic shuttle or taxi.
  • Self-drive: From downtown Hangzhou, take the Shanghai-Kunming Expressway to the Deshang Expressway. Total distance is about 380 kilometers, driving time 4.5–5 hours, with generally good road conditions.

What to Do & Attractions at Wangxian valley

What to Do & Attractions at Wangxian valley

Wangxian Valley

All core sights run along the canyon, falling into three categories: natural scenery, cliff architecture, and old street culture. Below are the spots I recommend prioritizing.

  • Baihe Cliff Hanging Complex
This is the valley’s most iconic landmark. The vertical cliff drops nearly 100 meters, with embedded cliffside guesthouses, a cliff library, cliff restaurants, and high-altitude viewing platforms. Non-guests can reach the viewing platforms via the plank walkway for a full overhead view of the valley and old street. It is the best vantage point for photos of the cliff buildings.
What to Do & Attractions at Wangxian valley
  • Canyon Waterfalls & Plank Walkways
Jiuniu Stream runs through the valley, forming multiple tiered waterfalls including the Sandie Waterfall and Wangxian Waterfall. Water flow is strongest and most impressive after rain. A 388-meter hanging plank walkway follows the stream, including a 50-meter glass walkway section. Visitors with a fear of heights can take the parallel wooden path instead, with no loss of viewing angles.
What to Do & Attractions at Wangxian valley
  • Yanpu Old Street & Cultural Sites
Yanpu Old Street is the valley’s main commercial and cultural area, with preserved rammed-earth walls and traditional wooden architecture. It branches into three side streets: Baiwei Street, Zuixian Street, and Zuofang Street. The area holds two well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty buildings — the Hu Clan Ancestral Hall and Yang Mansion — with intact wood carvings and traditional structural details. There are also folk experience spots such as the Three Gods Temple, brown sugar workshop, tofu workshop, and bamboo weaving workshop, where you can watch craftsmen at work and join select hands-on activities.
What to Do & Attractions at Wangxian valley
  • Scenic Bridges
Qingyun Bridge is the first bridge after the main entrance, spanning the stream. The platform on its right side offers the first full panoramic shot of the cliff complex, a standard first stop upon entry. Lanyue Bridge, Baige Bridge, and Zuixian Bridge follow the stream upstream, each framing different valley views. Lanyue Bridge is the classic spot for night view photography.
  • Activities & Performances
The valley offers cultural experiences including hanfu rental, oil-paper umbrella painting, and tie-dye. A canyon rafting program runs exclusively in summer, lasting about 1.5 hours. Free folk performances such as Yiyang opera, bench dragon dance, ancient-style parades, and Nuo dance take place daily, with extra shows on weekends and holidays. Exact times follow the park’s daily on-site announcements. All decorative lights turn on at 18:30; the warm lighting across the cliffs and old street, paired with the mist system, is the valley’s core nighttime experience.

What to Eat at Wangxian valley

What to Eat at Wangxian valley

What to Eat at Wangxian valley

Most dining options cluster on Baiwei Street and Zuixian Street, focusing on Shangrao and Jiangxi local snacks and farm-style dishes. Below are the items I tried and recommend.

  • Local signature snacks: Dengzhan rice cake is a Shangrao intangible cultural heritage snack, made with rice batter skin stuffed with shredded radish, bamboo shoot, and minced pork, steamed until soft and chewy. Qianshan rice noodles are a local breakfast staple, with smooth rice noodles in a rich savory broth. Taro dumplings use taro-based dough skins served in a sour-spicy broth, with a firm, springy texture. Wangxian baked cakes are filled with preserved vegetable and pork, baked fresh on site with a crispy crust.
  • Drinks and light bites: Freshly pressed kudzu root juice is a local specialty, lightly sweet and good for rehydration after hiking. Wangxian winter melon tea and crispy fried winter melon are popular summer refreshments. “Immortal fruit” is steamed five-eye fruit from the local mountains, sweet-sour and commonly eaten for digestion; the fruit pits can be strung into a bracelet as a souvenir. Cheese pull corn is a widely available casual snack.
  • Full meals: Farm restaurants on the old street serve free-range chicken soup, bamboo tube rice, and Jiangxi-style stir-fries, mostly using local mountain ingredients with a savory, moderately spicy profile. Farm restaurants outside the valley in Wangxian Township have lower prices and a wider menu.

Wangxian valley Recommended Routes & Map Layout

AIGC Valley Map, just for reference

Map Layout

The valley is a long, narrow canyon running north to south, with the main entrance at the south end. Jiuniu Stream flows southward through the valley floor. The Baihe Cliff complex sits on the west slope, while Yanpu Old Street and commercial areas line the east bank. All key sights are connected by streamside paths and mountain plank walkways. From my experience, a counterclockwise route avoids backtracking and has a gentler elevation gain, making for more manageable physical exertion.

Recommended Routes

  1. One-day highlight route (day + night, best value)
Enter through the main entrance at 16:00. Cross Qingyun Bridge for the first full cliff view → Walk upstream along the streamside path, passing Sandie Waterfall and the glass plank walkway → Arrive at Yanpu Old Street around 17:30 and have dinner on Baiwei Street → Wait at Lanyue Bridge around 18:30 for the lights to turn on, to catch the full sunset-to-night transition → Walk across Baige Bridge and Zuixian Bridge around 19:00 to explore the lit old street → Reach the Baihe Cliff viewing platform around 20:00 for the full night panorama, and catch folk performances along the way → Exit the park around 21:00 via the main path.
Total walking time is about 4–5 hours with moderate intensity. It avoids midday heat and covers daytime scenery, sunset, and night views on a single ticket.
  2. Full-day in-depth route
Enter at 8:30 → Hike the full canyon trail to see Wangxian Waterfall and all stream-side scenery → Visit the Hu Clan Ancestral Hall and workshop street around 11:00, and join a hands-on craft activity → Have lunch on the old street at 12:30 → Visit Yang Mansion and the Three Gods Temple around 13:30, and browse shops on Lingguang Street → Climb to Baihe Cliff and Chaohe Tower around 15:00 for a full valley overlook → Wait for sunset at Lanyue Bridge around 17:30 → Watch night views and performances at 19:00 → Exit at 21:30.
This route covers every major spot and takes about 6–7 hours of walking. It suits visitors with good fitness who want a thorough visit.
  3. Wuyuan combined one-day tour
If you are already traveling in Wuyuan, you can book a combined one-day tour of Huangling and Wangxian Valley with Wuyuan departure. The package includes round-trip transport, admission tickets, and cable car access, with optional Chinese or English guide service. The full tour lasts about 8.8 hours, so you do not need to plan transport separately.
  4. Two-day itinerary
Arrive in the afternoon on day one, check in to accommodation inside the scenic area → Explore the old street, watch sunset and night views → Walk the nearly empty old street and misty valley between 7:00–9:00 on day two → Cover the remaining spots on the in-depth route in the morning → Check out and depart around noon.
Staying inside the valley lets you avoid crowds and enjoy the quiet valley atmosphere early morning and late at night. It works well for photography and relaxed vacations.

Best Time to Visit Wangxian valley

Best Time to Visit Wangxian valley

Best Time of Day

For a single-day visit, entering around 16:00 is the most practical choice. You can experience daytime canyon scenery, sunset transition views, and the full night light show on one ticket, giving the best value.

All park lights turn on promptly at 18:30. The core night viewing window is 19:00–21:00, which is also the busiest period. If you stay inside the valley, 7:00–9:00 in the morning is the best time for photos — very few visitors, and the valley and old street look their best in the early morning mist.

Best Seasons

  • Spring (March–May): One of the best periods to visit. Wild flowers bloom across the valley, temperatures stay between 15–25°C, and the air is humid and comfortable. Mist and cloud formations are common after rain, which strongly enhances the valley’s atmospheric feel.
  • Autumn (September–November): Low rainfall, mostly sunny days, and cool temperatures. Mountain foliage takes on layered autumn colors, making it good for hiking and photography. Visitor numbers are also relatively moderate during this season.
  • Summer (June–August): Dense vegetation keeps the valley 3–5°C cooler than the city, making it a viable nearby summer escape. Midday sun is strong, so I recommend entering in the afternoon. Summer-only canyon rafting is available during these months.
  • Winter (December–February): The lowest visitor numbers of the year, with stable ticket prices. Rime and snow scenery appear after snowfall, and the warm night lighting creates a strong contrast with the cold landscape. Mountain temperatures drop low, so pack warm clothing.

Note: Ticket prices, shuttle schedules, and performance times are subject to change during holidays and peak seasons. Confirm the latest official information before your trip.

My family loved it! The service was great, and the two ladies at the front desk were so kind. My Marriott Bonvoy membership registration had a phone number error, and they patiently helped me late at night. The room was very comfortable, and the whole environment was fantastic. You can even try on Hanfu! If you're traveling with kids, I highly recommend checking out the children's playground next door – it's really good. It's a nice hotel with a nice big balcony and nice rooms. Breakfast tasted great too. Let's start with the shortcomings. The breakfast environment can be improved. For example, the tables and chairs are changed to double tables instead of round countertops, and the lighting is dim. I forgot my room card at the dining table, and the front desk asked me to go back and get it myself. If I didn't have it, I would be fined. (The result was delivered after I called the restaurant at my request) The front desk's request was reasonable. After all, it was the guest's own problem. But such a cold reply shows that humans are worthless, and robots can be used to replace humans.

Tired of tourist crowds? You absolutely must stay at this Wangxian Valley guesthouse. Ancient trees tower around the courtyard, and layers of lush greenery filter out the outside noise. The moment you step into the small courtyard, your heart instantly calms. The rooms are spacious and airy, always dry and comfortable, with complete and tidy bathroom amenities. A big thank you to our butler, Huanhuan. She was thoughtful and discreet, always available when we needed her, and meticulously planned time-saving routes. She even advised us on the best times to see the waterfalls and cliffside stilt houses, helping us avoid crowds at the main attractions. We truly experienced the valley's beauty, which changes with every season, all in one trip.

Huling Scenic Area admission ticket plus round-trip cable car ticket: The hotel package included tickets and cable car for two adults, and we just needed to purchase a half-price ticket for the child. Staying at the hotel gave us access to a VIP channel, which was very convenient. There's a makeup and styling shop right next to the hotel that opens at 6:30 AM, which is super convenient for avoiding the crowds. We were done with our photos before 9 AM. Strolling around in the evening, away from the crowds, was very pleasant. The wooden house was a bit noisy. It rained all night, and there was a light nearby that kept making a sound. Luckily, the room provided earplugs, and once I put them on, I slept soundly.

I highly recommend this Shangrao Treasure Hotel! From check-in to check-out, every detail makes my husband and I feel at home. I must give a five-star praise! As a foreign tourist who can't speak Chinese, I was full of anxiety about the transportation and itinerary when I first arrived in a strange city, especially the route to the airport. The front desk staff patiently listened to the needs in fluent English. They not only carefully checked the flight information and explained the precautions of the airport one by one, but also enthusiastically shared the authentic food strategy of Shangrao - tender and juicy Shangrao chicken legs, soft and fragrant lanterns, and the local private shopping places, allowing us to deeply experience this The charm of the city. What's more surprising is that the next morning, the staff took the initiative to take us to the restaurant and introduced the characteristics of Chinese breakfast in detail, so that the meal was full of ritual. On the day of check-out, the staff helped to contact the taxi to the airport in advance, took the initiative to carry the luggage and send us to the station, and did not return until the vehicle leaving. This kind of intimate service, which is seamlessly connected from check-in to check-out, makes the journey in a foreign country full of warmth. If you are looking for a hotel with excellent service and human flavour, this is definitely the choice not to be missed! It is enough for the baby to roll on it! The sanitary details are absolutely perfect, the bedding is white and stainless, and the children can rest assured that they can climb casually. You can also see the beautiful view of the garden by the window. The green plants are super healing. The cats are docile and not sticky. The baby likes it very much. The breakfast is super fragrant. Wunvzhou Resort Wuyuan|3.42km from city center
I came to Wunvzhou for a trip and booked a hotel inside the scenic area. It included two-day admission tickets for two people, as well as tickets to the water park and the children's fun museum, which was excellent value for money. Initially, I was worried that hotels within a scenic area might be noisy, but my concerns were alleviated after staying there. My room was assigned facing the street, but with the windows closed, the noise from outside was manageable. Most people were out watching performances anyway, so it wasn't a big issue. The performances in the scenic area lasted until past 10 PM. After a long walk around the area, it was great to be able to walk a few steps back to the hotel and rest immediately. In the mornings, the scenic area was quiet, so sleeping in wasn't a problem. The hotel provided two breakfast vouchers. It would be inconvenient if you didn't want to eat at the hotel or missed the breakfast time. Restaurants and convenience stores in the scenic area open quite late, usually after 10:30 AM, so be sure to pay attention to breakfast times. Hotel shuttle service: If you drive, park in the underground parking lot, then check in at the visitor service center. Afterward, an electric shuttle will take you to the scenic area. Wunvzhou Water Park: The hotel gave me one adult ticket to the water park. You can buy extra tickets to bring children along. However, sometimes the outdoor sections are closed, which significantly reduces the fun.

This is the most comfortable guesthouse I've ever stayed at in Wuyuan! The architecture is unique, and the interior design is beautiful. The common areas are well-equipped and extensive, featuring an outdoor hot spring, a scenic pool, outdoor BBQ, and camping facilities. There's also a huge lawn and an indoor kids' play area. My favorite part is the large private terrace in the room, offering views of the mountains and fields outside. Breakfast is plentiful, and after eating, it's lovely to take photos and stroll through the fields. We even received a complimentary afternoon tea upon check-in. We experienced: Morning Eight-Section Brocade: Practicing this in the mountains was a truly special experience. Afternoon singing bowl therapy: The vibrations truly felt like they were melting away fatigue. There was also tea therapy, meditation, and Zen photography – each with its unique charm. The most delightful surprise was the panoramic sound therapy; the immersive feeling is hard to put into words. All three daily meals could be enjoyed on-site. The ingredients were fresh, and the menu changed daily. To savor such culinary delights amidst the mountains truly made for an all-inclusive experience covering dining, accommodation, and activities. Xiaoqi Village (East Route) Wuyuan|22.92km from city center
The Wuzhai B&B located in Xiaoqi Scenic Area is one of the most satisfying B&Bs I have ever stayed in. The host is very enthusiastic and very professional. Because she was born in this house and has been living and living there, she can answer many related knowledge about Wuyuan culture. I felt a lot of benefit after living in my house for two days. The hardware of my house itself is also quite good. The tea table in the public area can always find a place to drink tea. The rooms are also simple and elegant, and the food is hygienic and delicious. I want to come again if I have a chance.

The hotel is located right near the Waishuangxi Ropeway. We stayed in the Yunxi building, which has a great environment, nestled by the mountains and a stream. The hotel room was also very spacious, well-equipped, and clean. Parking was convenient and free. Our whole family loved it.

Simple and fairly big hotel ( the type with long carpeted corridors to get to your rooms) but the room was perfectly fine: all clean, comfortable beds, good shower abd reception very friendly. It is almost opposite the cable car entrance, which makes it super convenient to get up the mountain as early as possible to avoid the heat

Shangrao Railway Station Shangrao|4.23km from city center
The room is large, clean and odorless, and parking is convenient. Breakfast is also good, with more varieties. The location and environment of the hotel are good. I personally feel that the ground conditions of the elevator need to be improved. It is relatively shabby. When the cleaning master drags the garbage, the dirty water in the plastic bag is overflowing in the elevator. I hope to improve.

[Satisfied stay] This hotel is very cost-effective! Convenient location, very close to the subway station. The room was clean and tidy, the bedding was comfortable and the sleep was good. The front desk service was warm and the check-in and check-out were fast. The free breakfast is simple but tastes good. Overall, beyond expectations, will choose here next time.

This guesthouse is located in a village near Wangxian Valley, about 2 kilometers from the scenic area. The owner is super friendly and offers shuttle services to and from the attraction. They also recommended places to eat and helped us arrange a Didi ride to the high-speed rail station, which we really appreciated. The guesthouse isn't right on the main road; it's tucked away a bit, making it very quiet at night. After staying in so many modern hotels, this kind of design was a nice change. The room was quite spacious and very comfortable for three of us. There's a rooftop terrace for drying clothes and enjoying tea, and all the toiletries are disposable, which is a nice touch.
