My partner and I stayed here (25/5/24) as we had a wedding to attend at Carey’s manor just a 5 minute walk away. We had the ‘goose’ room which was perfect for the 1 night we were there. Just want to say thank you for a great stay. Breakfast was amazing and the quality of the food was as good as I’ve had anywhere. The breakfast waitress was busy but was brilliant, nothing was too much trouble for her. I would have no hesitation in staying again if we were in the New Forest area. Highly recommended.

A fabulous friendly place for a lovely lunch with friends. We were served by Pedro who was both friendly and professional and passionate about his guests having fun! Food and ambience were both great! ...................................................

Wonderful setting, peaceful and very comfortable. Staff are kind and courteous. Would definitely recommend this as a great venue to stay at. I will be taking my wide there for a week during summer to enjoy the woods and walk among the horses that roam freely around the area
Response from Property: Hi Thomas Thank you for your recent visit and 5 star review. We are so glad to read that you had a wonderful stay with us and you would recommend us. It means so much to read these types of reviews. We look forward to welcoming you back in the Summer. Kind Regards Huntsman Team

What a lovely evening. Tasty food which delights and satisfies after a long day walking in the forest. Friendly professional staff who create a welcoming relaxing atmosphere..and have a good sense of humour! Dog friendly with treats a plenty...spot on The Huntsman! Shall definitely be coming back again.
Response from Property: Thank you again for taking the time to let us know how we did. We hope you have a great day!

Lovely pub, efficient and welcoming check in. Sunday lunch - roast (vegetarian option) was probably the best I’ve had. The two not so good things was 1) the room which, although beautifully located around a small Courtyard, was tired in places (bathroom) and could have been cleaner. There was thick dust on the lightbulbs in the main bedroom area, as well as on the ceiling in the bathroom. The tiled floor in the bathroom wasn’t particularly clean either. 2) breakfast the next morning was marred by the brusque member of staff who appeared harried and rushed despite our group being only one of three tables seated. We were travelling with two dogs and a baby and whilst fully appreciate ‘dog tables’ need to be away from the main restaurant, being seated at a bar height table made feeding an 8 month old baby impossible. We (politely) asked to sit at another table only to be told it was reserved for another dog family. In an attempt to resolve our predicament we were given a regular height chair so that mum could sit next to baby in high chair (even if this meant having to stand up every time a spoonful of food was needed for feeding baby!). This would have been laughable if not for the attitude of staff member, who eventually saw sense and moved us to a table round the corner (not before commenting that “she doesn’t mind running about after us”). Until we got to our room in the evening and experience at breakfast the next morning, we had anticipated a return visit but sadly we won’t be staying again, however we’d definitely be back for food and drink in a beautiful area of the New Forest.
Response from Property: Julie M, thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We regret that you had a negative experience, and will use this as an opportunity to improve.

Decided to stay here because the location is so well positioned in the new forest, and you are only a short walk away from the Train Station “ I have eaten here before and totally enjoyed the experience,, the Room we stayed in was out in the courtyard area,, it was very pleasant and comfortable, excellent standard of cleanliness and a nice selection of snacks if you so desire,, we both had breakfast ( full English) and it was outstanding. Cooked to perfection and to order! The lady who served us was excellent,, friendly and efficient,,would definitely recommend and will stay again ,

We booked two double rooms for our stay. They were lovely and spacious. Well furnished and very clean. The hotel/pub is on a busy road through the New Forest but there was no road noise and it was a peaceful place to stay. Breakfast was very good with a decent range of menu choices. Staff were charming. Would happily recommend.

As they were offering a special deal we decided to try out a stay at a Youngs Pub and stayed in lovely Brockenhurst in the New Forest. On arrival we received a nice welcome and were quickly shown to our room. The room was clean, tidy and well appointed with tea and coffee readily available and refilled as required. The room was a little cold on arrival as the heating wasn’t on. Also the blow heater in the room did not work. We raised the issue with the staff and we immediately received a replacement blow heater and shortly afterwards the central heating was working. The pub clearly caters for those who want a meal with a large restaurant area, however we had already made arrangements to eat out during our stay. There was a good selection of beer and wine available. We thought the charge of £15 per person for breakfast was high especially as other cafes close by or in Lyndhurst were much better value. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely consider staying at a Youngs pub again.

we stayed at the huntsman in Brockenhurst feb 2024 with our black labrador. Good room with a big comfy bed, great food especially the breakfast and even better staff who were very friendly and really keen to help. Overall we would throughly recommend the huntsman and a big pat on the back to all the staff
Response from Property: Jason R, we're so glad that we were able to go above and beyond your expectations! We hope to see you soon!

Me and my friend, stopped of here just after the lunch time rush was lovely and a relaxing atmosphere with the fire on. We had the burger and chicken and bacon sandwich which were both lovely. Only downside was the dessert menu. Felt something milk chocolate would have been nice. But overall nice experience, nice staff. Will definitely return.

Good place to stay in Brockenhurst. Convenient location, good food at the pub, friendly staff. Our room wasn't ready when we were told it would be at check in time which was slightly annoying. Room wasn't made up on our second day either. Sofa bed was pretty uncomfortable - it was ok for our 5 year old, but an older child or adult would have been pretty unhappy with it I think.

Am afraid The Huntsman really didn’t deliver for our stay. We have stayed before some years ago but this time was different. The family room we stayed in was very unclean. The bathroom floor was filthy, mould all over the netted curtains, cobwebs in the bathroom and on the lighting, heating that barely worked (very cold).. Breakfast was ok although we did feel like an inconvenience at times asking for basic stuff. Such a shame as a great spot.

Just grubby and food very poor Menu in restaurant differed to online significantly. Wish we had walked out rather than had and paid for poorly cooked and presented food. Restaurant needs a good refurb and clean. Staff in restaurant were pleasant.

Lovely pub with rooms which exceed expectations, providing excellent value for money. I’ve stayed in 5 star spa hotels costing 5 times more and with much worse accommodation. The room was warm and clean if a bit small (certainly not the ‘spacious’ king that the website description promised), the bed and pillows comfortable, the bathroom had a bath which was taken full advantage of!. Couldn’t find the promised hairdryer, appreciated the robes. The tea and coffee supplies were generous but the coffee machine didn’t work. The rooms are in a pretty courtyard out the back which are converted stables. Someone forgot to put the sound proofing in, as every sound from the adjacent rooms was audible. EVERY sound, bodily functions, chatting, TV, etc., Also the lights in the courtyard are apparently kept on all night and the curtain isn’t adequate to block out the light. However, both of these issues were minor concerns. Staff were pleasant and the bar had a very extensive choice of gin and other spirits reasonably priced. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night and were not impressed. I ordered the “roast cauliflower steak with green beans, capers, caramelised onion and lemon’. What arrived was a plate of boiled veg lightly seared with a blow torch, no gravy or sauce, no lemon and no protein element (suggest swapping the cauliflour puree for a bean puree or adding lentils or such). Extremely disappointing - although the menu didn’t state, I was expecting some sort of sauce as ‘cafe paris’ sauce contains both lemon and capers and would be an easy and excellent way to elevate the dish from bland to sublime. I ordered a little jug of gravy to go with the side order of chips. It arrived after 5 mins, I poured it on the chips only to find that the gravy was absolutely stone cold - with 2 chefs in the kitchen, plus 2 other cooks, plus a waitress serving it, I was surprised that nobody thought to warm it after taking it out of the fridge. No apology was offered or refund for the chips however, I had eaten them as after a day of forest rambling, I was starving. My husband ordered the chicken and ham pie and this arrived with the pastry barely cooked. Unfortunately another case of ‘spec sheet diner’ where the skills are kept low to keep the wage bill low, food is cooked with absolutely no imagination or finesse and the menu is standardised across a group of several venues. More than one veggie/vegan pizza choice would have been appreciated as Goats cheese is not only revolting but utterly passe as a ‘vegetarian’ choice. Beans, tofu, lentils, would be very welcome additions to the veggie offering here. Breakfast was excellent despite the lack of toast or cereal on the menu. It’s a pub, not a 5 star hotel and the choices were great and varied. My husband had the full english on both days, and I had the continental which was delicious and fullsome though a plant based yoghurt would have been appreciated. Both days we survived well

We have been to lunch at the Huntsman several times and found it good. However today the service was slower and so we were not so enthusiastic. Maybe it will improve with the passage of time - the food itself was tasty.
