Mcmenimans is always a great place to stay. The overall experience quality is very consistent. The golf course is one of the best in the country, public or private. I am a passport member so was able to continue my journey toward completion!

Very cozy, wonderful staff & excellent dining options. I love the warm, quiet downstairs bar with a great old-style pub feel & wood burning fireplace.

My room overlooking the golf course was superb, with the charm of a vintage-style hotel, but with all of the modern amenities. The dining/drinking venues are delightful. And, of course, the whole property has that unique and wonderful historical ambiance and McMenamins whimsy! Great value too, with the off-season pricing at the end of November.

Had my wedding at the gearhart hotel. The venue was beautiful and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. My only complaint was that the "gourmet" food they served at my wedding was not up to par. The pork chops were very dry, the salmon was over cooked. The only items that were good was the salad and potatoes.

The facility is absolutely beautiful and located next to a golf course. Room was excellently decorated and the wood finishes made it quite attractive. Bar man was exceptional, helpful and friendly. Made the experience unforgettable. Food was very well prepared and flavorful. Overall a great experience.

I had requested ground floor rooms or elevator access since my father uses a cane and has trouble with stairs. They replied w assurances they would accommodate us. The clerk did not have this info at check-in. They did accommodate us in ground floor rooms, but had to shuffle other guest reservations to do so. If you’re not a golfer, be advised the grounds crew starts early. (6:30 AM when we were there.) I believe the mowers and other equipment are stored on the lower level of the Annex building so we were awakened early as they started their day. Also, once ‘the links’ were opened the parking was mostly taken by golfers and staff. (Golf carts are also stored on the lower level of the Annex.) Maintenance note: our toilet flapper valve apparently leaked as our toilet tank would refill a little about every 20 minutes.

Great location close to a lovely beach. The hotel has a lot of character and the room was cozy. The on-site pub has good food too. I did find the mattress too hard and the a/c/heater, which turned on and off continually, noisy and hence disturbed one throughout the night.

My wife and I stopped in for a bite and a pint on our way to Seaside and had the most wonderful experience. This was our first introduction to the wonderfully quirky McMenamins and we’re truly delighted. Lunch was delicious with very generous servings and the Julius Squeezer beer was out of this world! We have since visited another 4 McMenimans around Oregon and have had fantastic experiences at each one. AAA+++

What a nice property with all amenities you need on site. We arrived the day after a major event. I was un aware and staff was still recovering from the onslaught of people the day before. There was some trade off as our service was quite slow but still friendly. Overall a pleasant weekend getaway!

Surprisingly great pizza! Also very expensive pizza! $42 for a large. Our server was friendly and we enjoyed talking to her. Great outdoor seating, fully shaded in the afternoon. Good choice of beers.

The outstanding features were the food quality and service, and the front desk, except for one rude and unhelpful woman who checked us in and out. The other front desk people were fabulous. The main reason for the 4 stars over 5 was the rooms. There is nothing really wrong with them, but the bathroom is Super 8 quality at best, the TV did not work (they tried to fix but the remote never worked and it had to be unplugged to turn off), and the interior is just very plain with newer wood panels among the knotty pine. One would think for several hundred a night the fitness center would be included, but no, it's $5 as "it's part of the pro shop and not the hotel." C'mon guys. The common area outside is great. Large wigwam burner style fireplaces were lit at least on Saturday night against a foggy evening. Elk roam the property and the links--it's really a pleasant place to sit and sip a glass or two of wine and take in the views and people watch. Gearhart is a laid back community, with a very wide, mostly featureless beach. Very few services, but all you could want are minutes away in Seaside and Cannon Beach. We will gladly return, now that we know what to expect.

First we have a service dog and we’ were told we could not stay. Then the desk clerk checked with her manager and begrudgingly said okay. This is highly unusual at the McMenamins hotels. We were trying to find our room and the surly front desk person sent us hunting 3 times before saying she was to send us to the Annex instead. No elevator in the Annex. The room was small with one small window. Calling the front desk 4 times but no one ever picked up. Restaurant had over a 1 hour wait. The bars were packed. We ordered at a bar and waited 1 hour for lukewarm food. Horrible service at high prices. This site does not fit the expectations of the brand. All staff we encountered were SURLY. For the price of the stay I expect friendly service and some care for our needs. As the only restaurant in this beach area it services all the nearby condos. One improvement would be to have a priority waitlist for hotel guests. Neighbors are calling in reservations and placing the hotel guest at the back of a long line. This way there is a benefit to staying at the hotel. So why stay here? Well I asked myself the same thing. Location is you want a beach in walking distance. Note there are no beach views. Maybe you are a golfer. Not a good stay for families. No pool or soaking tub. No theater. You will compete with the neighbors for seating around the fire dishes. The condo owners or visitors are gaining all the hotel benefits.
