Guobin Hotel

The hotel's location is great, parking is convenient, and the room size is generous with a desk and good lighting. The magnifying mirror in the bathroom is the best I've ever used. The main drawbacks are: 1. The toilet was initially broken and kept running, then wouldn't flush. I had to go to the public restroom on the first floor. 2. You can only shower in the bathtub, which then makes the tub unusable. Someone else had already mentioned that the tub drain was slow and water would accumulate. Only I managed to shower in our family. 3. There were no children's toothbrushes. I asked the front desk for two adult ones, and they agreed, but no one ever brought them. I also asked the floor attendant for more bottled water, and they said they'd provide some, but none were delivered. When I asked at the front desk in the lobby if they had water, they bluntly said no. 4. Children under 1.4 meters are charged for breakfast. There were more than two staff members at the breakfast entrance, and when they saw our two children, they said we should pay for both, but only charged half price. Several other hotels we stayed at on this trip didn't charge extra, and one even offered a waiver for a good review. I didn't feel comfortable asking for a waiver here. 5. Upon check-in, I pulled back the covers and found a small hair on the bedsheet.

Located in the northeast corner of the ancient city with a great view, the rooms were clean and tidy. They even gave us yogurt. Next time I'm in Datong, I'll definitely stay here again.

Out of my 17-day trip to Shanxi, the Datong Guobin Grand Hotel was by far the most comfortable stay, and had the best breakfast. I ended up staying there for a total of five days. The hotel service was excellent; after my group's initial booking, I extended my stay by three more days, and they kindly let me keep the same room. The breakfast had a great local flavor, with dishes like lamb offal soup, fried dough twists (ma ye), and hand-shredded rabbit, all of which really suited my taste. The hotel's location is also fantastic, making it easy to get around. It's just outside the northeast corner of the ancient city, and there are tons of great places to eat nearby. If I ever visit Datong again, I'll definitely choose the Guobin Grand Hotel.

I arrived in Datong around 9 PM after a long journey, and seeing the hotel I'd booked in the distance immediately put me at ease. However, to my surprise, my car was blocked from entering the hotel parking lot. I waited for a while, but no one paid attention to me. I had no choice but to get out and walk uphill to the hotel lobby. Again, no one acknowledged me. In desperation, I had to find a gentleman in a hotel uniform and explain that my car was stuck outside and I needed help getting the barrier lifted. He went to look for someone and eventually found a security guard to lift the barrier. During check-in, the lady at the front desk with glasses took forever, making a phone call to ask if the room was ready. I asked her if they had sold my reserved room, as I had a booking! It's a shame that such a big hotel has such poor management. The shower was incredibly inconvenient, as I had to step in and out of the bathtub. The most bizarre thing was a red light source in what looked like a mirror in front of the tub, which made me quite uneasy. When I asked the front desk, they said it was an old broken TV. Why wouldn't they completely remove it if it's broken? On a positive note, the breakfast was absolutely fantastic. The variety was extensive, and the service was impeccable. The restaurant overall deserves five stars!!

This hotel, despite its age, still shows glimpses of its former grandeur. The rooms are quite spacious. It's a shame that a hotel with bathtubs doesn't provide disposable bathtub liners, forcing guests to order them themselves for express delivery. Its main advantage is its proximity to the city wall; staying here offers a beautiful night view of the wall.

The room was spacious and very clean. Breakfast offered a great variety, and there were plenty of dining options nearby. It's also close to Daiwang Mansion, and you can catch a stunning drone show at 9:30 PM!
