This stunning historic building was superb, to the uneven bedroom floors and creaking staircase, just what we expected. Spotless accommodation very comfortable bed, we stayed in Charles 11 room full of character. Ambiance and communal areas in bar were inviting. Breakfast was excellent good quality and plentiful. All request catered for, Dean (manager) was very welcoming and answered all our questions about the history of this beautiful building. Michelle was also helpful in informing us about the Elham market which was great. It was our pleasure to stay with you for the two nights, we will absolutely be back next year THANKYOU Debbie and Andrew

Booked a night following reviews on these platforms. Several things that need flagging for other guests: Comms: we are on O2 - zero coverage; hotel WiFi very ropey (family member settling into Uni, we needed to be in touch); Room: £125 for a delux room - dust on all surfaces, TV unplugged, bed sheets didn’t fit; bathroom clean, toiletries good quality. Food: only one option Gluten Free (vs ‘Gluten Free Options’ promoted on TripAdvisor) reasonable quality, reasonable price - star of the show was Kieran (who was doing everything from wait table to run the bar). No option for breakfast made / discussed on checkin. Advice to staff: all noises made in main restaurant and bar are clearly audible (dragging furniture at midnight etc); either make a feature of this & invite people to stay up for a drink or do the re-arranging during normal hours. Overall this was not a strong experience and certainly question the cost vs value at this time: could be so different.

Fantastic welcome from Pete the new manager. Bedroom delightful, charming , had everything we needed (even slippers) and great bathroom, spotlessly clean. Unfortunately they hadn't got their kitchen up and running yet so we couldn't eat there but will definitely give the restaurant a try next time. We were staying one night to get an early train at Le Shuttle and Pete insisted he got up at 4.30 to make us a bacon sandwich for breakfast en route. It was delicious. We will definitely return and highly recommend it. Thanks to Pete the owner who dropped in for a drink and chatted to us. Bigger thanks to Pete and his wife who went the extra mile.

An excellent Sunday lunch for my Vegan wife and myself. Good atmosphere and cheerful service from the three girls who had a great sense of humour. The only problem was the mints that came with the bill - I had BIG problems separating the wrapping from the chocolate after forgetting about them and then discovering them melted in my pocket !!

A very enjoyable Sunday lunch where the food was excellent, the service prompt and the staff very friendly. Dean looked after us really well and the atmosphere was what we hoped for. Log fires and a friendly ambience. Thank you, we will be back
