The gardens surrounding the hotel were stunningly beautiful, serene! The private onsen (hot spring bath) was amazing and the traditional style rooms were really cool. The customer service was excellent too. They spoke some English but had a translating device for the more complicated questions. Shower water pressure was great- complimentary soaps and bathroom amenities provided. They happily arranged taxi service for us and were always available for assistance. Only complaints are the room smelled very fishy and the sleeping mats & pillows were uncomfortable. Also, don’t eat at the restaurant unless you like fish / seafood. It was delicious but very fishy!

My husband and I stayed here for two nights as part of a two-week honeymoon trip. The area is a little difficult to reach in comparison to other onset resorts (about 35-40 mins by public bus from Fukushima station) but the remoteness is part of the charm. There is a free shuttle bus to and from the ryokan at set times and you have to pre-book hence why we had to take the public bus initially. It was relaxing to be able to try all the differnt baths, have a walk in town during the day and sample the local cuisine. They have a huge buffet for breakfast and even the most basic dinner package was a carefully curated omakase menu. There did not seem to be very many foreign guests at this ryokan or in the town of Tsuchiyu Onsen more generally but I would highly recommend it as a slice of Japan that is not currently overrun by foreign tourism.

We visited Sansuiso in December 2022 in the snowy weather. Four of us stayed in a suite room with private bath in Shisuitei, the new wing. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable with a bedroom section (with 2 ample sized western beds) that can be separated with sliding doors at night, as well as a very big tatami room where two more people can sleep on futons. The heating system was top notch with precise control, and I should mention the toilet was equipped with top-of-the-line TOTO washlet bidet with automated lid and flushing. I have multiple food allergies, including gluten (celiac disease), and my husband cannot eat eggs or dairy products. When I explained this to them when I made the reservation, they readily accommodated us, and I was thrilled that they didn’t simply skip some things, but carefully prepared special course menus to match our needs. Since my mother was going through chemotherapy, we had a private room for dinner and breakfast (plus we could add whatever we wanted from the breakfast buffet to the prepared meal). Both my mom and her friend said they felt like they had been treated to a fine restaurant for each meal. It was our first time to stay in Tsuchiyu Onsen; we stayed there for two nights when it was snowing heavily due to a big cold wave. When my mom wanted to go shrimp fishing or my husband wanted to paint kokeshi dolls, the kind okami-san (innkeeper) tactfully allowed us to take the shuttle bus to the venue and the bus came to pick us up on the way back to the inn. Bathing with a view of the snowy slope and waterfall was also wonderful. The shuttle bus from right in front of the Fukushima station is convenient, too. If an opportunity presented itself, we would love to visit Sansuiso again.
Response from Property: Thank you so much for your kind review. We're glad you were able to enjoy your stay even with all of the snow. We hope to see you again in the future!

There are more than three large public baths (hot springs), which is great! The food (both dinner and breakfast) was delicious and I was able to relax thoroughly.

The water is delicious because it comes from a mountain spring, so everything you eat is delicious.

It is located in the back of Tsuchiyu Onsen. There are three buildings, and this time I stayed in Shinonome, which is the cheapest. There were 5 of us, but it didn't feel cramped. You can see the entrance from the window, and you can hear the sound of the suikinkutsu all the time. There are 3 baths. There are men and women on the first floor. The water temperature seems to be the highest, and it warms well. The sauna is small, but it's automatic, so it feels good. The third floor faces the river (waterfall). It is named "Taishi no Yu" because it seems to be a place related to Prince Shotoku. In addition, there is only one, so depending on the time, men and women can enter separately. The scenery is nice. There are two floors on the 6th floor, and men and women change places in the morning. Fuchi-no-Yu is a two-story building, with the entrance on the 6th floor, the large public bath and open-air bath on the 7th floor, and the sauna, nuruyu, and Miharashiyu on the 8th floor. There is not much difference from the bath of The other Takinoyu is on one floor. We had breakfast and dinner in the open kitchen on the second floor. For dinner, Japanese beef shabu-shabu and sashimi were delicious. I had some left over, so I had the rest made into rice balls and had it as a late-night snack. It was a buffet in the morning, but it was delicious. Most of the employees, including the room attendants, the dining room, and the shop, were overwhelmingly male, but everyone was kind and polite, and I got a very good impression. It was a wonderful inn.

It was a nostalgic inn. You can see a wonderful Japanese garden from the lobby and rooms. The room was a large clean room in the new building because it was upgraded. Japanese sweets, Japanese tea, coffee and tea were placed in the room. As for the bath, the Fuchi-no-Yu in front of the open-air bath waterfall was the best during the summer. There is also lukewarm water here, so I was able to relax. The waterfall bath was also a wonderful bath. There are also massage chairs in these bath areas, so I used them when there were no visitors for day trip bathing. The cold water machine was also conveniently located in the bathroom area. There is a large public bath on the first floor, but there is no open-air bath. We had dinner and breakfast in a restaurant with a live kitchen. Personally, I'm not good at restaurants with live kitchens because it smells like fried food. However, this time it was a seat near the live kitchen, and there was no problem with the smell at all. The space between each table was quite wide, and there was an acrylic board partition even within the same table, so we could not toast, but it was safe. It was nice to have freshly made tempura and main Western dishes made in the live kitchen and delivered immediately. 300cc of Japanese sake starts at around 1,000 yen. The rice was steamed and served in a tea basket, and it was delicious. Also, the plum pickled tempura was unique. The breakfast was a Japanese set meal, and there was coffee after the meal, which was good. I took a leisurely bath, and was healed by the greenery, the waterfall, the mountain stream, and the good hospitality.

We had planned to stay outside the prefecture, but when the emergency evacuation order was issued, we quickly looked for a place nearby. This is a high-class inn in Tsuchiyu Onsen with many rooms, three hot springs, and four private baths, so you can enjoy a variety of baths. There is also a pool in the basement. The room is not too small or too large for a family of four. The food was okay, but the negative thing was that there were bugs flying around while we were eating. We were also bothered by the moldy smell of the elevator. Everyone at the inn was kind and it was a comfortable stay. Thank you very much.
