Egon Hotel Hamburg City

The most satisfying and cost-effective hotel reminds me of Japan, every detail is very thoughtful, even if the room is not big. The occupancy rate in winter is not high. Going left and turning left at the traffic lights is the red light district. The S1 line Reeperbahn station is also here, 10 minutes to the train station central.

First glance hotel was clean nice staff and a decent place to stay. Unfortunately my two night stay was somewhat ruined by a major plague of bed bugs in my hotel room which I’m now having to deal with. I must have 100 bites or more, really unpleasant. I know that this is not the sign of a dirty hotel and they have assured me ( too late now of course) that they take every precaution. The hotel have been fairly understanding on this matter but I won’t be staying there again which is a shame, if you do decide to stay here, check the beds when you arrive! Sorry intercity but I do think I need to let people know before they check in.

Positive: From the price performance perspective it is a nice hotel to stay overnight or at most two nights. Clean rooms and bedding. Small rooms, but comfortable. A very nice local bar/pub beside the hotel where you can eat, drink and watch sport games Negative: Not enough electric sockets. None beside or close to the beds. Hardtime if you have sleeping aid machine. I had to ask an extension cable and multi socket and they provided. Car parking in 5 min walking distance not a big deal, but dropping off or loading your luggages at the front door of the hotel is problematic. Either you block the bike road or sidewalk or have to stay in a paid park area. Each time you get punished by local people :) The worst thing we experienced was the outage of the internet and they could not fix it in 48 hours.

Really great and well equipped apartments. Comfortable and nice furniture, well equipped kitchen (and when there was no teapot, the reception provided one instantly on request. The neighbourhood is great, lots of restaurants and shops. The street is a bit noise due to cobblestones, but fairly quiet at night. A really great place and worth the money.

Fantastic location with very friendly and attentive staff. The beds were comfortable,. particularly the sofa bed which is unusual for a hotel! Really conveniently located for all transport links and noise from the station is minimal with the windows closed. Water pressure from the shower is superb and we were grateful for the bath since our 4 year old prefers that to a shower, it filled up quickly and the water actually heated up faster than our bath at home! The breakfast was amazing, good value for money and a good selection of hot and cold food available, it was a real treat getting to have banana chips for breakfast and the coffee was outstanding - I particularly loved that they provided coffee flavouring syrups. WiFi signal is strong enough to stream Netflix. The hotel was fantastically accommodating when we asked for a room at the front so that my son could see the ICE trains at the station. (This was the purpose of our visit as they're his favourite train and the location didn't disappoint!) Just a couple of small points to note: There is no kettle and fridge in the room - I don't know how I missed this at booking as to be honest, I wouldn't have booked the room if I'd known that, given that my son likes fresh milk before bed and the restaurant part is only open for breakfast. It would have been nice to have tea in the afternoons on arrival back from being out for the day but it's not a huge deal - I do feel that these facilities would improve the room significantly. The windows also have the ability to open fully as well as part way and there are no guards etc against them to prevent children from falling. Not an issue for us as we didn't open them fully, but I do think parents need to be aware of this when booking the room. The rooms aren't cleaned daily, this isn't a huge issue but it would have been nice to have at least had the bins emptied daily, as we had to have a couple of takeaway dinners (see earlier comments about sleeping child, haha!) and the bins are very small. Again, not a massive deal for us, it didn't take away from the trip at all! The hotel accepts dogs - not a problem for us as we love them and the room didn't smell at all - the few dogs we saw were very well behaved and sweet! A few people have commented on the decor of the hotel - it's true, it does need a full facelift to be dragged into modern times, but it's totally clean and comfortable and that's what mattered to us :) We'd absolutely recommend this hotel! Just to add for anyone considering a trip to Hamburg, we bought a Hamburg Card which was great for getting discounts at some of the attractions and also covers you for travel on basically everything except the ICE train.

I stayed here for a stag-do and I was really impressed with whole place. A five minute walk from a large train station and a twenty minute walk from the Reeperbahn; it's ideally situated for a night on the town. The hostel itself was clean, tidy and offered everything you'd expect from a far more expensive hostel. They provide shower gel and you can rent a towel for the duration of your stay. The breakfast they offered was pretty extensive, with something to please most people. There was a bar which was ideal for gathering at before going on a night out, however, the hostel seems to be a family friendly place, so making a lot of noise late at night is frowned upon. The staff were friendly and polite, and willing to give advice on the best parts of the city. I would highly recommend this hostel for a short stay in Hamburg.
