We love everything about the Fontenay! It is like being on a private, modern yacht & you never want to disembark! All the rooms are very clean, comfortable & spacious. Concierge desk goes the extra mile to get you want you need - from event tickets to elaborate international shipping of my suitcase. LOVE the breakfast & the outdoor seating is gorgeous with the view and light from the Alster. LOVE the pool & outdoor sunning terrace. Be great if more outdoor lounge chairs could be added. LOVE the big sauna & view of the city & steam room. Excellent manicure at Spa. Excellent food & drink on rooftop terrace. Front Desk followed through on giving us the Amex Centurion Card ”early check-in based upon availability” which makes a HUGE difference. Love to get an upgrade ”based upon availability” next time as well as we will be back soon!

We travel to Hamburg regularly for 2-4 days and will likely stay again at this Marriott: great location, feels safe even late to walk home, clean though unfortunately carpet, good bed, nice bathtub, water kettle and tea selection. American standard service attitude. Note that the bar at the hotel did not have a trained bar tender - they can only make drinks that are exactly on the menu. Not a big deal for us but surprising. We are still careful with Covid, staff wore masks, other customers mixed.

Recommended again and again! A real luxury hotel where (almost) everything is right. We have been there several times and are always very impressed with the room, staff and especially the breakfast. Only this time there was a problem with the heating, it couldn't be turned on, a valve was broken. Unfortunately, this was not fixed until the third complaint on our part. Defects can occur, no problem, but then they have to be fixed quickly.

It was already my 5th time at the hotel this year, so I can say that the service is of a very constant factor. Check-in was again very smooth, and even though we checked in around noon, the rooms were already ready. Again I received a nice upgrade, and this room was also perfect. The rooms feel like you are coming home a little bit. The bathroom was also spacious and had a large walk-in shower. I had a great breakfast in the morning, and I can really recommend the chef who makes all different egg dishes, again a delicious omelet. Until next time.

As I travel very frequently for leisure and business I have a broad frame of reference. This hotel has positively surprised me. Many hotels still use Covid as an excuse to strip down their service. Not this one: extremely friendly, helpful and anticipating reception staff (big compliment and thank you to Uwe Ahlburg at the reception - one of a kind customer oriented top professional - really OUTSTANDING). You get water, slippers and full amenities in your room. They offered a second bottle at check in just in case that you dont have to walk down again. Hotel still offers desinfection everywhere. Room is clean and was desinfected. Beds are very comfy, room not huge but big enough, bathroom has sufficient space to deposite all items, light is good and magnifying mirror is effective. Only item to improve is the coffee was only decaf and not sufficient milk powder and I could hear a bit from other guest through connection door. Check in and out very effective. Asked for a taxi in a hurry and staff walked over for me to get it as fast as possible. Its not a luxury 5 Star super fancy place but if back in HH I’d still prefer it over those as in the end service makes the difference and not the price / look of the furniture. Excellent value for money.

Fantastic service from Paulina. She checked me into the hotel efficiently. Told me all about the services offered by the hotel. She was friendly and helpful. I had asked her to help me pay a traffic ticket that was written in German. She read the ticket, translated and helped me figure out how to pay it. Thank you. The hotel was under renovation but the room was very nice. It was quiet and had a nice view of the canal. The location is very central-walking distance to most sites and to the shopping areas. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here for a week last August and from start to finish, the staff were SUPERIOR. Room was clean and tidy, breakfast was great every day with a varied and changing selection, the location was perfect for shopping and restaurants, but what really wowed us was the people. Every single person we came into contact with was so lovely, accommodating and ready to help us. Even when I would go outside to smoke at 4am, the person working the front desk was wonderful. Running the Hamburg Marathon, the hotel has set a starting point. I didn’t expect it to be so close. Going out the road is the starting area. God, it’s 50 meters. It’s raining on the race day. It’s half an hour before the start, it’s warm and warm, and it’s so happy! The room was very small, but the window was facing the outside scenery, so it was still very comfortable. The windows are particularly interesting. Turn the handles in different directions, either horizontally or vertically, for easy ventilation. The most wonderful thing is the shower in the bathroom, three modes, just running the marathon calf, rudely rushed to the leg for 15 minutes, the next day the legs are not sore. On the first floor of the small restaurant, the food is huge. I ordered a burger, thinking that I would not eat enough, and ordered a salad with French fries. The next person whispered that she must come to run the marathon. You can see that she can eat. So many... As a result, I packed it back to the house and ate it for three meals before I finished it! In short, if you run the Hamburg Marathon, it is awesome here. Walking to various attractions is not too far away. I punched seven churches and a sporting goods store the next day. By the way, it rains every morning, and it starts to dry again at noon. It is a bit cold in the evening, very strange.

The hotel is clean and comfortable. Room was unusually large. Unfortunately there was no air conditioning which meant my room was like an oven. The staff kindly made available a large fan. Much appreciated. Breakfast was very nicely presented with a good choice but no fresh machine coffee was a shame. Lovely fresh orange juice. But... When I checked in I had distinctly said I needed to check out 1 day early. In clear German. No possibility of them not understanding this. When I tried to pay my bill the night before I was told I would have to pay the full amount. I was met with 4 members of staff talking at me telling me I was wrong. Well Boston Hotel. You are wrong! I confirmed with my booking agent (at midnight!) that I did indeed have a flexible booking and I am permitted to check out early. I had given 2 days notice. My booking agent will now be escalating this matter. I am looking forward to their response. I refuse to be intimidated into paying for something I have not had! After 30min of discussion and disagreement I was told to sleep on it and speak with the manager the next morning. I did this and was told again that I would have to pay the full amount. I knew I was in the right so I rang the police for advice who were excellent. They told me not to pay for something I have not received. I took the policeman's name and number. I informed reception that I will pay for the days I have been present and no more. Eventually the hotel agreed. I had been prepared to walk out without paying because they were making every excuse under the sun to force me to pay the full amount. The police said not paying would be ok provided I leave my details. But it would be a civil matter if I do not pay but I must leave my contact details. I was prepared to do this. Appreciate the friendliness of the young man at reception in comparison to the others! An exception. Of course, it is unlikely I will return to this hotel. Nevertheless, this is most likely an unfortunate individual experience. The hotel is nice, modern, comfortable and clean. Apart from the check out fiasco I would still recommend this hotel. Albeit extremely hot in summer! Be careful if you also need to check out early!
