Best Two Star Hotels in Hobart

I stayed at a Imperial backpackers two years ago and was very keen to persuade my four friends to stay with me this time. Frustratingly, a bunch of little irritating things add up to a negative review, when actually Imperial backpackers should be a great place to stay. The kitchen is great, with lots of equipment and fridges and space for your food. The hot water in the bathrooms takes a while but it’s really hot when it does come through. Beds are comfy and the room had an efficient heater. And there’s a guy called John who is so helpful – he was a guest last time. I was there, but now he works for the organisation. All in all, it should be a five star place. However, in the past couple of years, I don’t think they’ve done much maintenance In our room, the locker doors were either locked shut or couldn’t be shut (and there was no place to put the padlock that the website suggested we bring!). Our flyscreens were also badly torn, while in our friends’ room across the hall, there were gaps at bottom and top of the windows, which let in both freezing blasts of winter air, and the hideous smell of cigarette smoke from directly beneath the windows. Stuffing several towels in the gap eventually did the trick, but it shouldn’t be necessary. And there’s a bunch of inaccurate/ misleading/ dangerous signage. Firstly, there are 2 huge fire doors as you climb the stairs from the night entrance. They both have large signs saying they must be kept shut at all times (they are, after all, fire doors). But they are both left open all the time, and I was told have been for a while. On the main entrance door, opposite reception, the biggest sign says office house are 9-5.30pm (same as last time) but right below it is another sign saying office hours are 9.30-230pm This shorter opening time impacted our stay in several ways,l. With that office only open from 930 to 230pm, eerything else is “ after hours”. So, if you want to use the laundry - you pay a deposit and a per hour fee - you have to do so between 930 and 2:30 pm. If you want to leave your bags during the day, after checking out at 10 am, you can only do so till 2:30 pm. (Last time we left our bags until 5pm , when we got the Skybus to the airport(. We phoned the Imperial number, at 3pm on day 2 , to ask for a second key to our room, and we’re told that there would be an “after hours fee” of $20, even though it was still 3 pm. None of this happened on our first visit, and the website doesn’t mention that all the services mentioned are only available 5 hours/ day. So, like I said, I should be giving a great rating, but I’d go for 2 1/2 stars.

Tony and his wife, the owners, are wonderful people who are trying to make this hostel work. It's an old property, and no amount of patching and love can bring it up to modern standard. This is a low-budget place for low-budget travelers ... safe, clean, friendly, but not appealing or up-to-date. It is a 10-minute walk to downtown, 15 to the harbour. Fortunately, the nearest SkyBus stop is just a few of blocks away, well within reach while carrying your gear. The halls and common areas are covered in indoor-outdoor carpeting, the paint is peeling, the kitchen is small and dark. But the showers have plenty of hot water, the beds are clean, the linens fresh. Yes the towels are small, the bathrooms dark and poorly equipped, the staircase is steep and creaky, the common room table-tops are covered in plastic (like Saran-wrap, but industrial grade). But it is a friendly place. When we first arrived, we were dismayed at the decrepit building, and were convinced we'd made a mistake. But Tony and his wife went out of the way to make us feel at home -- so we feel conflicted -- it's hard to recommend this place, but at the same time, it provides safe and clean low-end accommodation, with lots of personal touches. So I guess it really depends on what you're looking for. We probably would not stay there again - but we also found it to be perfectly adequate as long as we kept our expectations in check. There was a school group on a holiday from Melbourne - and it was just right for those kids and their teachers and chaperones. And probably not bad for twenty-somethings looking for cheap lodging. Not so good for retirees traveling the world. And then there was a little issue with electrical - they had an electric heater plugged into a power strip -- something the Australian fire authorities were posting as a bad practice on posters in town. One other positive thing: right next door is an organic / cooperative grocery store with all kinds of high-quality food and some good produce. We particularly liked their granola and muesli.

The hotel environment is very clean and tidy. Although the restroom and bathroom are shared, the environment is very good. Opposite is the wow supermarket, very convenient. The restaurant on the first floor has cutlery, bread, and milk juice in the refrigerator. The hotel staff is also very friendly. In short, the experience is very good, suitable for young people to live. It is said that this hotel is 180 years old.

I stayed here one night as I had heard about Montacute and so wanted to check it out. It’s a beautiful building in a quiet location. It’s a backpackers for an older set of customer, or for people willing to pay a little extra than a YHA. A hostel environment with shared kitchen and bathrooms. I paid for a twin for myself - $110 for the night. My younger self would’ve loved it without question, but my older self was a bit tired from my day and so the loud chatter in the corridors late into the evening was a bit tedious. Earplugs helped and anyway after 12am things settled and I could sleep soundly in my comfy bed. Very close to nice coffee shops snd Salamanca.

I would not recommend to stay at YHA Hobart Central. I have stayed with the YHA for the past 13 years and all around the world, and never have I been treated so attrociously! In December 2022 I booked a private room with an ensuite, to then stay in March 2023. I had confirmed my booking, paid my booking, and on departure from Melbourne to Hobart my plane was delayed. I rang the hostel to let them know I was still coming but there will be a delay in my flight. I was told no worries, you will receive a text message with your room number and pin number, in which I didn't receive. I rang back just before the plane took off, and the receptionist gave me the room number and pin number. On arrival to the property it was late, I headed up to my room, put the pin number in and entered the room. As I walked in I was greeted by a male and his partner! We were all in shock! I had been able to enter their room. I rang the after hours reception number in which I was greeted by a very rude receptionist, who continued to say that the hostel was fully booked for that night! I said to her, ”well sorry you need to sort something out, I have booked and paid for this room back in December, I have just been able to walk into someone else's room with the number I was given and now you are telling me the hostel is fully booked!” She continued to smack both fist down on the bench, using profusive language and telling me to get out.” I am still in disbelief I walked in to a room that was given to me as mine, but I was greeted with another couple in it already! I WOULD NEVER EVER RECOMMEND TO STAY IN THIS HOSTEL!!!

I went to Tasmania for a few days from Sydney, because I especially chose to go to the market on Saturday to choose this hotel. The whole is very fond of, the opening of the window is the port, the scenery is really beautiful, the blue sky and the white clouds can see people drinking coffee very comfortable, the room is also very large, relatively clean, this hotel is below the bar, but our room is inside So it’s not noisy. The market on Saturday will be able to arrive in two or three minutes. The breakfast in the morning is very delicious. I like it overall, but the door in the room is unlocked and there is no safety chain. What makes me depressed is that the door key of my room can open the access door on the second floor of the lobby staircase. Is it possible for all the keys of the guest who can open the outer door of the second floor to open my door lock? ?

Said to be a shop, specifically a large inn, downstairs is a bar, restaurant, slot machine room. The lobby is right on the side of the bar and restaurant. This shop was remodeled from an old house. There are a total of eleven rooms. On the second floor, open the door with a key, the stairs are up and down, and the key to open the door is the key to your room. The quietness of the accommodation is entirely conscious of the guests. There is only one chain on the door of the room for security measures and no anti-locking. The bathroom is big. Breakfast is a Western-style breakfast, a la carte meal, breakfast tea drink buffet, tea, water, milk, juice. The location of the hotel (inn) is very good, this is the biggest advantage.

Clean and warm, with a historical and emotional hotel, the layout is very warm, the crafts are either left by the boss's parents or the boss's own collection, some of them are especially oriental, the boss John is very good, the kitchen downstairs eats casually There are a variety of locally produced honey jams. If you like Western breakfast, you will be more enjoyable. The location is very good and all can be reached on foot. Parking is also very convenient, the backyard will do.
