Barcelo Isla Canela Hotel

Reviewed whilst there and wish to add more detail. Attractive hotel in a quiet area, but too quiet in the stormy weather we experienced. Hotel maintenance poor in some places: wet room extractors, indoor pool, and stair hand rail. Food was excellent at the start of our week BUT deteriorated towards the end: juice at breakfast tasteless, bacon under cooked & greasy (not crisp), griddled beef tough. . . Room shower silicon very mouldy - such a disappointment. We were offered a change of room after 3 days, but declined because of the inconvenience. Surely NOT to much to expect the shower to be cleaned. Barcelo Customer service manager sent a bottle of Cava and cakes as "compensation". An attempt was made to clean the shower in the indoor pool area but not very effective. Reception staff communication poor: unaware that the ferry to Isla Cristina had ended for the season..... when advised, did not pass this information on to other team members or travel reps. NOT the relaxing holiday we needed.

A great place to meet up with family and friends - lots of friendly and very helpful staff and good facilities on venue. Local transport services leave a lot to be desired as does availability of local shops and eating places in October. But overall, a pleasant location to stay with something for everyone.

Just came back after 10 days family AI stay at this hotel. Pros for us: Very good food, lots of choice for everyone, our favourite were Asian and Mexican nights, lots of fish and seafood. No need to worry about sun beds, there was always space available AI drinks - good choice Day activities in the pool very good, magic carpet for the kids was lots of fun Amazing beach just outside the hotel Staff in the bar and restaurant very hard working Quiet location Cons: This hotel is mainly for French and Spanish visitors , clubs, night entertainment 99% in Spanish & French There are some activities just for French which made us feel like 2nd category guests, it would be so much nicer if all guests were treated the same way. My 10 years old has been given single sofa bed, which was so small and flimsy he was unable to use it at all and ended up in our bed for the whole 10 nights. Barcelo is set in the beautiful resort of costa de la Luz with local amenities such as two supermarkets, many restaurants serving from authentic paella to pizzas. Right outside the hotel doors you will find an icecream parlour which I recommend. The hotel features two large pools linked with a canal and plenty of sun beds available. Pool towels are available to use with a deposit, although we took our own. The grounds and rooms are very clean and looked after, always feel fresh thanks to the routine cleaning. The rooms include air conditioning which can be set to auto and a warmer quilt available in the wardrobe. A safe is also available at a small cost. The staff are very friendly and are always approachable if something is not quite right. We chose half-board which I recommend, this gave us the opportunity to visit one of the amazing local restaurants. The buffet restaurant has plenty to offer for all tastes and diets with an option to sit outside or in for breakfast and dinner. The resort really feels your visiting Spain with most visitors being Spanish, who are lovely. The hotel is great for family's and couples of any age.

We visited in mid May and it was very quiet, I would recommend going half board or all inclusive when travelling early season, as not much is open near by. The hotel does let you switch dinner for lunch when half board which is fab! The hotel is fine. Beds are comfortable, the hotel is clean and food is good with lots of choice. Most drinks are English brands, however would stay away from the cocktails, these are pre mixed and a waste of money. The beach across the road is lovely, super clean and quiet. There is entertainment in the evening which starts at 10pm. The town of Ayamonte is more lively and defo worth a visit. €12 in a taxi or the bus stop right near the hotel will take you for €1.50. Would highly recommend the restaurant Puerta Ancha Tapas and patio Flamenco, such good food and very good value for money. Bottle of wine was only £10 Perfect break for a few days away.

The hotel is set in lovely grounds and has a great sea front position. There are a some lovely bars and restaurants within a very short walk and a small supermarket just opposite. In October, the resort is very, very quiet - which suited us. There is a lovely laid back marina within walking distance. The town of Ayamonte is also close by. The quality of the food is excellent - a wide choice and well cooked. The hotel staff are very friendly and the hotel is of a high standard.

Overall a very nice experience staying at this hotel which is located in a very quiet area with just a few bars and shops along the road outside the hotel. Great for beach lovers as crossing over the road gives access to a lovely beach. Following the pedestrian walkway along the coast up to the marina at Punta del Moral is safe and flat. The hotel itself was very clean and tidy and staff working in all areas to keep it maintained. Nice pool which was cleaned regularly and lots of loungers available at any time. We stayed with breakfast and evening meal included which was buffet style. Lots of choice available and staff work really hard to keep the flow of tables available. Note that that if you are not all inclusive when dining in the evening, you have the option to charge drinks to your bank card which is recorded at reception on arrival, or pay cash. You are given a ticket at the restaurant and the waitress completes when you order drinks at the table. If you are paying by cash then you pay as you leave. Room clean and in good state of repair. Large bed which was very comfortable. A note for English visitors is that the tv does not have any English speaking channels whatsoever which was a little unusual compared with other hotels we have stayed in. Lots of tables and chairs dotted around the hotel (inside and out) and in the reception and bar areas. A very nice stay

We landed in a hurricane and arrived to floods. I have to say that the hotel acted to clear up the damage very efficiently. I have read in other reviews that staff are not friendly. That is just not true. We found all of the staff very friendly. It is true that they don't all speak English. However why should they. One of the nice things about the hotel is that it's clientele are multicultural. Whilst we were there, there were people from Spain, Germany, France and Belgium as well as some English. The Hotel itself is very pretty. It is Andalusian in style in the main areas and the lovely garden's are reminiscent of the Alhambra water gardens on a smaller scale. I felt it was a shame that they did not take the theme into the bedrooms. The bedrooms were a good size and spotlessly clean. The bedding and towels were changed regularly. It did lack a table and chairs, although there was a desk with a chair. The balcony had no outside light, but we managed to get the table light moved to give us some light to play cards by. There is no water in the room, which you would expect in a 4 star hotel. However you could obtain water from the bar. We were on an all inclusive deal booked through Tui. The location is absolutely stunning. It has a lovely beach that goes on for miles. The area also is great for wildlife. The area is known as the wet lands so attracts lots of birds. It is not a place that parties. It is a good place for families and people that appreciate lovely scenery. Our family had a very relaxing holiday. With regards to food and drink. We were on all inclusive. Our drinks were pretty good. With wine, beer cocktails and soft drinks included. The drinks for people not on all inclusive were quite reasonably priced. The food was a buffet restaurant. What they served was good quality. If you like meat and fish then you are very well catered for. If you are vegetarian like me there is a lot of salads. Hot Meal wise it was hit and miss. On a couple of days I just had a plate of vegetables as there were no vegetarian main. It got very repetitive. If you are vegan you would find it very hard to eat here. They do say if you have any allergies then you should ask. Nothing is labelled for ingredient contents. Where food was labelled as to what is sometimes the labels were against the wrong food. My advice is that you should look very carefully or ask. Unfortunately some staff do not actually know what is in items as I asked about what looks like mushroom risotto and was told it was beef. It definitely was a mushroom risotto. After someone tasted it I was able decide to have it. We as a family had a lovely time. Most of my family would definitely return. I would love to return, but not with the current vegetarian catering. Food is very important to me on holiday. I don't want to eat the same salad every day. I would like to try vegetarian versions on local cuisine, like a vegetarian paella for example. The reason I gave only 4 stars is the lack of

This was my second visit to Barcelo This time on my own And Barcelo was as expected as before I loved it Room was fantastic Maid service every day : I left a tip xx Reception staff brilliant Food amazing I would definitely recommend this hotel If you want a relaxing holiday I was half board But a good restaurant across the road and very well priced I will return Thankyou Barcelo x
