A family of 4, we stayed for 7 nights at this tasteful, beautiful and hospitable home of the royals near the hills. We wanted a place with decent internet, close to an airport, that had the beauty and the weather of Himachal, but not the in-season rush of a Dalhousie or a Mcleodganj, and hence chose Taragarh in Baijnath, Palampur. All of us, including us oldies, have enjoyed the once in a lifetime thrill of paragliding at the nearby site of Bir-Biling. In and around, within an hour or two radius of the property, we have savoured the local delicacies of Kangdi Dham, Khatta Mutton Rice, Grilled Trout, Green Soda, Patte Wali Icecream Barfi, Kadi-Rajma, Lungdu, Lasiyada, Siddu, Fried Momos, Thukpa, etc. We've got our fill of important Hindu temples, exquisite Buddhist monasteries, and scenic tourist attractions in the same comfortable radius. We stayed in the suites in the new wing, but a stay in the charming old wing should be memorable as well. But best of all, the Taragarh Palace Resort felt like a comforting home, because of its warm and rooted people. If Himachal didn't prohibit outsiders from buying property, we might've considered a retirement home around here.
