Having enjoyed a truly wonderful stay in June for our first time and thinking this would be beautiful in winter too - we were not disappointed. The Crown & Garter (C&G) is a beautiful pub, with a real local feel (has real locals too!), offers a fabulous and good value range of food from light bites, lunch/dinner menu's and a concise yet good wine list - very reasonably priced for the quality of wine. Speaking with the outstanding staff, all food ingredients and wines/drinks are sourced from local good quality suppliers - the flavours/taste verifies this too. The kitchen/chef team serve a most enjoyable meal, pretty much whatever you choose. We can highly recommend the Charcuterie board, Mackeral pate, steak pie, mash side and Venison dishes (beautiful with a glass of the Rioja!). It seems guests make a point to visit The Crown & Garter just for the food experience. The bakery/cafe is really cosy and offers a tasty range of patisseries, cakes and light snacks; coffee has good fresh flavours as well. The accommodation is 10 rooms all facing into a landscaped courtyard (probably an old stable block), peaceful and beautiful in summer and winter; also less than 30 seconds walk to the pub building or your car. Rooms are cosy, warm, beds very comfortable, bathrooms and toiletries really nice, with ample storage space for short or longer stays. And dogs are welcomed (with no extra charge). Wilbur, our standard wire haired Dachshund, feels very at home here, and we all enjoy an array of short or longer walks that start and end at the C&G. Very importantly, we would like to express a huge thanks to all the staff at The Crown & Garter, for a truly warm welcome and wanting to give their very best to help ensure a stay here is all you want it to be. Alana thank you! Your enthusiasm, energy and ideas helped confirm for us the C&G is the location for our special family celebration coming up in a few days; your planning and attention to detail exceptional. Luke, Tommy, Nate, the kitchen team and all the staff - thank you! It is most enjoyable meeting and speaking with you. We can't wait to return and will be doing so as a celebration party of 10 persons in the coming few days. We hope to become a regular visitor to enjoy the C&G and the beautiful surrounding countryside.

We received excellent service from the staff here, who were prepared to go the extra mile and kept the kitchen open for us on a Sunday afternoon after a no-doubt, very hectic Fathers' Day. Can highly recommend. Food was great and nothing too much trouble. Hope to go back again soon!

Everything I wanted, lovely pub, great staff, good food, great room, thanks everyone at the Crown and Garter. Deserves to do well. Particularly both the guys in the bar for their enthusiasm, helpfulness, good humour. Terrific dinner, lovely atmosphere. What more to ask for?

I stayed for 3 nights to explore the area and visit various places nearby. The room was excellent and clean . The showers were really good too. The facilities were top rate. The evening menu was lovely and the breakfast was superb. Most of all every single person working was incredibly polite and efficient and a pleasure to deal with. I was recommended by a friend and it exceeded my expectations. A lovely place I will deffinatly be going to again

Comfortable and modern. Every facility you could wish for in the room. Spotlessly clean. Friendly and professional staff. Rooms off of a beautiful central garden. Delicious and generous freshly cooked breakfast in the morning.

I just spent the weekend Inkpen and visited the Inkpen coffee shop part of the Crown & Garter, for a coffee during a Sunday morning walk with the dogs. What a lovely place! There was a super friendly young person serving, I think she said she was called Lottie and is new to the area. She made us feel very welcome and served great coffee! The place is dog friendly too. Also lots of good outside seating. I’ll be back!

We stayed a single night and only booked 48hrs before as it was just a last minute getaway. The staff were very friendly and our evening meal was great followed up the next morning by a good breakfast. The room was clean, warm and well presented and to be honest we couldn't asked for more. We'll be staying again when we are in the area again!

Great food, attentive service and a lovely setting. Highly recommended. We will definitely visit again next time we are in the area. The steak and the fish of the day were both amazing and the puddings were very well received by the girls. I thoroughly enjoyed the cheese board.

Thank you so much Patrick and team for such a wonderful NYE party - music and dancing and lots of fun with the locals and people staying in the hotel rooms. There was a real sense of community and just how a village pub should be! Thank you to yourself, Luke, Grace and team for giving up your New Year’s Eve and working so hard! Happy New Year - looking forward to many more fun events in 2024.. x

Sad to see that Peroni beer has been taken off, leaving no real alternative!! Any chance this will be reverted at some point? Would probably come back more often if yes! Was very happy in the past with the Peroni lager beer on draught, and find the Asahi to be not to my taste.

A relaxing and enjoyable stay, made amazing by the staff. They went above and beyond to make our stay best it could be.

What a fantastic stay. The team who worked on the 3rd Nov (especially Luke) and the team that did breakfasts on the 4th (think it was Alanna but lost the bit of paper) could not have done more to help and look after us to make sure 10 of us had the most fabulous stay. The rooms were exceptionally clean and offer fabulous toiletries and nice touches like bottled water and a good selection of tea bags. The lunch was fabulous and we got amazing service at all times. The pub has a fantastic vibe - family and dog friendly too.

This is our local pub and I love it. However there are a few things that I'm concerned about. The menu seems very inaccessible. It's far too poncy to take your parents or nana to. However, we went as a family to have dinner. I had a £33(!!!!) steak, it was very fatty, gristly and poorly cooked. I didn't complain at the time as my father in law was paying and I didn't want to seem ungrateful. But for £33 it was a dreadful steak!!!! Also they have recently stopped serving Peroni and replaced it with two other lagers - Asahi and something else - the something else smells and tastes like drain water and the Asahi gives you a headache however little you drink. I don't know why they made this change but can only assume they're selling cheaper lager at the same price so upping their profits.

Excellent ! We will be back… we were stuck in traffic so ringing ahead, we were able to order food and they kept it warm. My partner, tired from a week in hell at work knocked her wine over..another appeared as if by magic. I had to make an important call … they, without being asked turned music down.wow. The staff are amazing, as are the rooms, bed, bathroom and food..we will be back ! Many thanks guys.
