Ryokan Sawaya Honten Reviews

Amazing experience this was our first ryokan and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. So unique, clean & beautiful. Staff & Owner was very accommodating we highly recommend this hotel to anyone that wants to stay in a ryokan. Had the best sleep of my life the mat bed was sooo comfy :)

A Japanese inn with a long history. The front desk was very welcoming and helpful. They were able to help us check in effectively. It was my first time staying in a Japanese inn, and the tatami was very novel. It was also a different experience. The hotel is very convenient for transportation. You can take bus 201 to Kiyomizu Temple, Shijo, etc., but please note that there are two types of 201, so don't take the wrong one. Refer to Google or Apple Maps.

Heian Shrine is nearby If you like quiet places with quiet surroundings, this is a nice accommodation. It's really neat and pretty. really nice

I liked that the accommodation was clean and the bathroom was cozy. I was going to have a beer alone after the schedule, but it takes a while to walk to the downtown area.

Great place. We got lucky and we're the only people there due to it being off season. Amazing staff, speak good enough English, and helped us get taxis multiple times, also offered luggage transfer services.

Staying here was a highlight of our trip. The Ryokan was so peaceful and beautiful - we loved the little gardens and water features. Breakfast is delicious! The public bath was so relaxing

We loved this place. It was very clean, staff was super friendly. We didn't have the breakfast option with our stay but there were plenty of options in the area.

Beautiful Ryokan inside and out. We were met with very friendly staff, and the check in was quick and efficient. Our pampered backs were not used to the Japanese futons, but this wasn't a problem at all. Sawaya supplied extra layer of futons without question. Sawaya offers seperated public baths in the mornings and evenings. Great way to relax after a long day of walking through Kyoto.

Nice, clean and large room. Very friendly staff, such a pleasure to have stayed here! The property is close to the 206 transit line and the hotel can sell you a daily bus pass for ¥700, which worked out really well. Not the most convenient location overall, but still a great place to stay.

One of the best acomodations in Kyoto, spacious, traditional and so pretty. The staff is very nice and the neighborhood is very safe, walkable and near a subway station.

Our stay was great. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a good stay and gives a great experience in the traditional hotels by having futons to sleep on and having the communal bath.

I loved the traditional Japanese feel of this property and the friendliness of the staff. It was wonderful.

The ryokan is clean, quiet, and spacious with great amenities especially the onsen. There is a washer dryer that guests may use. The staff also reserved a taxi for our early ride to the airport. We did not have our breakfast there because I forgot to reserve this but they do offer this option. I would definitely consider staying here again. Many thanks to all the staff who took such good care of us.
