This was my first time staying in Kamikochi, so I can't compare, but I felt it was expensive considering the facilities and food.

We hiked from the bus terminal to this guesthouse which also serves lunch. On the way we could walked down to the river and took some lovely photos with autumn leaves. There are many tables and seats outside the guesthouse. I ordered Oden and it was good. After lunch, we crossed the bridge across Asuza River and soon reached the Okunomiya Torii.
