The rooms here are not worth $800. The online pictures make the rooms seem really nice, but the actual room looks nothing like them. I had high expectations, but instead, I found IKEA furniture, paper-thin walls, and cheap carpeting. The couch was covered in lint, and I was appalled at the quality for the price. There was only one person on the night shift, which seemed unfair to them. Customer service was terrible, with staff chatting 75% of the time. This place has potential, but it is not an $800 hotel. I recommend checking out Castle Hill Inn for a truly luxurious experience.

We had my birthday dinner at the Vanderbilt. The room is spacious and beautiful. We will definitely return. Oddly, we had to have a 5:15 reservation, which was early for us. The room never did fill while we were there. They seated us over an air conditioning vent and did try to cover it. We were squashed in between the bar and the entry to a private room with constant wait staff walking by. Finally, my leg began to hurt because of an uncomfortable chair and the angle due to the ac cover. My husband said, "Enough," and asked for a new table. Since the room was empty at 5:30, they graciously moved us to another table and then we proceeded to have the kind of evening I had in mind. I had the duck and cherries, which was superb. My husband had clams in a shell with pasta, he couldn't stop raving. He loved the wine. For dessert we shared a chocolate torte. Perfect! I was comfortable, my leg no longer hurt and we left very satisfied. Before we left, our sweet waitress presented me with birthday macaroons and a candle - delightful. We will definitely return. The food was marvelous.
Response from Property: Hi lisahR3114UN, We are so thrilled to hear you celebrated your birthday with us at The Vanderbilt! We hope to welcome you and your husband back again soon.

For a long weekend getaway that was cozy and easy from NYC, The Vanderbilt was a great winter pick for an anniversary weekend. Upgrading to a suite was ideal, because it allowed time spent relaxing in the room to be more comfortable. Weather can be iffy on the island during this time of year, but the hotel is located conveniently to all the best dining and provides umbrellas to help weather the elements. Wish we had brought bathing suits to enjoy the indoor pool on rainy days. Also, I wish there had been a fire in the fireplace, just to add a touch of coziness, even though the setting and scent were very appealing without. The decorations were fun, the grounds were lively, and Newport has a lot to offer during this time.

Third time at this Beautiful Property. The staff gives you the most personal experience. All of the amenities are in the building and you can walk right downtown. My 10 yr old always feels welcomed and it is his favorite hotel in the US. Especially with their indoor/outdoor pool and walking distance to Ryan's Arcade and Kilwins.

The Vanderbilt is stunning, especially decorated for Christmas. Both the public rooms and the guest rooms are gorgeous, cozy and comfortable. Some rooms have fabulous bathtubs, and they all have great coffee/tea/bar setups and fun libraries. Morgan the concierge is wonderful - hard working, fun, and extremely knowledgeable. We were there between Christmas and New Years so this issue might not apply to other times, but there were so many parties and weddings that it became a huge inconvenience. We couldn’t really use the public rooms, and were always being directed to back stairways, and basically told to get out of the way. The hotel has a nice gym, but the cable machine - the only piece of weight equipment- was broken our entire stay. The many fireplaces were never lit, and only one of the outside lanterns ever worked. Small details, but when you’re paying over $900/room, everything needs to be in working condition. The bedroom windows had a weird blackout film covering them that was quite unsightly and there were a few maintenance issues, but nothing drastic and the staff is extremely attentive. We loved the hotel, and will hopefully return when everything is in order and we can workout in the gym then sip cocktails by the (lit) fireplace.

10 out of 10 experience. Hotel, atmosphere, room, decor, concierge, spa services, food and even the valet - all amazing. Decorated for the holidays made it extra special and fireplaces made it very cozy. A memorable place and a memorable stay. We had a wonderful time.

NYE was $270 pp plus a tip of $70 “added for our convenience.” The food was only described as passed horderves and stations. The only passed horderves I was offered was a stack of cold triangles shaped grilled cheese sandwiches. I did see one tray of caviar come from the kitchen, but I couldn’t chase it down. The rest of the food was a buffet. My husband scored a small lobster roll and brussel sprouts. I was expecting some shrimp, raw bar or carving stations at the least. There was plenty of domestic “champagne”, live band and characture artist along with beads and hats and places to sit. The explanation given was that their booking agent Tock booked 150 guests instead of the expected 100-120 guest limit. I will be spending my money elsewhere next year where I get some nice food for my money!

We spent Christmas with our adult children. Our one-bedroom Elise Suite was even better than the amazing photos; our children enjoyed the Alfred Suite and a Manor Suite. Staff couldn't have been better; location was central - highly recommend!

We had a lovely stay at the Vanderbilt during our first trip to Newport. The property which is very well located was beautifully decorated for the holidays and had a warm, elegant atmosphere. Our suite was spacious and had excellent views of the harbor and Trinity Church. All members of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

The service is amazing, the rooms are classy and timeless, and the food/location is so good! Our room was the mansion loft suite, and we could not get over the size of it! Two levels! the bed was so comfortable and we utilized the speaker in our room for Christmas music!

We had a fantastic stay at The Vanderbilt. The staff was friendly, attentive, and professional, ensuring we felt welcome throughout our visit. The room was lovely, though a few minor maintenance details could be addressed. Dining at the restaurant was excellent, but a touch more attention to fine dining service standards would elevate the experience further. Overall, The Vanderbilt offers a luxurious and memorable stay in Newport, and we look forward to returning!

Morgan kicked off a wonderful start by her fantastic communication before we even got there! She was amazingly helpful! Then when we arrived Heather and Brooke made us feel so special and Heather even got us an early check in with great communication! I can't say enough about Said. His very warm greeting when we pulled in and his wonderful friendly manner as we were checking out was fantastic! Such excellent hospitality! Ty was so friendly and brought everything to the room for us and showed us around and was very thorough in making sure we were comfortably set - he ran all of the right pieces of luggage upstairs and helped us get settled. The room was so lovely and then Emma stopped by to bring us a special amenity and she was also so friendly! We loved it! My girl friends have never stayed at an Auberge Resort and they kept saying how incredible everything was - and they were right! The bed was so comfortable and housekeeping did such a lovely job with our turn down. We loved that we each had our own special water bottles by the bed! Throughout the visit, anytime I had a question for Heather, she was such a helpful happy person for all of our needs. At dinner, Tiffany was so incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. She patiently helped us pick out the perfect meal and accompanying drinks. She really knows her food and wines!! Thank you Tiffany for an excellent dinner experience! Morgan visited again to check in with us which was great so we could tell her how awesome her recommendation of the Breaker Lights was. The food was so delicious!!! Especially the octopus and gnocchi. The next morning check out was so easy and we were able to leave everything and enjoy a lovely morning in town before leaving. Again, Said spoiled us with his friendly manner, warming up the car, putting waters in cupholders, we felt so pampered! It was an excellent trip! Thank you!
