The proprietress and her family are very considerate and specially arranged a room on the top floor for us, which does not affect other guests and allows the dog to move freely on the top floor. The order did not include breakfast, but the enthusiastic proprietress still cooked rice noodles for us, which tasted great. We also gave us home-grown mangoes as a gift, which was very delicious. There's such a hidden gem of a guesthouse at the mountain pass! It's perfect for trekking through the Ailao Mountains. You can book different hiking routes directly at the front desk, so even beginners in sneakers don't need to worry. The guesthouse has plenty of common areas; it's a great place to spend a quiet day enjoying coffee and reading. I hiked the 2-day route alone, and the guesthouse owner readily helped me find a car to pick me up from Gasa, a shuttle bus, or directions to Kunming Airport. The restaurant there is also quite good and offers great value.
