I booked and paid for my room in advance, but when I arrived to check in I had to submit another deposit for the room. If I did not have enough money in my bank for this refundable deposit then my room would have been cancelled right then, even though I had already paid for my room. I do not remember seeing this anywhere in the booking information when I planned this trip. It was very unexpected and felt like a breach of contract since I didn't agree to this deposit at the time when I was purchasing the room. I did have barely enough money in my bank account, so it worked out this time. But I will be asking about this with any future bookings.
