Despite sleeping well once given a room, the experience beforehand was both highly stressful and unacceptable. We had arrived early at around midday that day to be advised that, as we hadn’t opted for early check in, we couldn’t check in which was completely fair. We then advised the Hotel Manager that we were going to a day festival and would be back late in the evening to check in, which she assured wouldn’t be a problem. However, upon returning at 11:30pm, we were informed our room had been double booked and there was not a room for us. We had just paid for a taxi to take us back to the hotel, where our car and all our belongings were, to be then turned away late at night. We are not from the area and live roughly 200 miles away and had it not been for the staff being so incredibly helpful, we would’ve been stranded and would’ve likely have had to either sleep in our car or find emergency accommodation at a premium, which was not offered at all by Travelodge. Why offer 24 hour check in if that’s not the reality? It is completely unacceptable to double book rooms in the ‘hope’ that someone cancels and the room remains occupied. How profit focussed is that? No care about customers at all. I am a young girl in my twenties and often stay alone. On this occasion, I was with my partner but imagine if I had been alone and stranded as a female at midnight? This isn’t the first time this has happened to me and I am appalled that it has happened again. I will not be choosing Travelodge ever again for my stays. To end, the staff at Grantham South Witham are amazing and managed to bend over backwards to accommodate us for an error that Travelodge caused. Absolutely not acceptable.
