I'm lying here trying to take a nap but sweating too much to sleep. Why? THIS PLACE HAS NO AIR CONDITIONING! IN A HUMID WARM ENVIRONMENT SOME PEOPLE ESPECIALLY WITH ALLERGIES NEED AIR CON. I can't believe over 100 reviews and i found only 1 reviewer who slightly mentioned this key problem. The rest of you did not cover all the bases. And one more missing piece: This is NOT a boutique hotel. It's a nice unique b&b that's showing wear in a few spots like the bathroom. Tripadvisor people really messed up the advice on this one.

We had a wonderful time here and wished we would've stayed longer. Having preserved so much of the former convent's spaces and furniture, the atmosphere has a relaxing effect that can't be overstated. Whether we lounged by the pool, or sat reading by the fountain courtyard, the austere charm of this place was a much welcome break. The room was clean, spacious and quiet. The breakfast was excellent and featured among other delicacies, sliced pineapples from their own on-site plantation, which felt like an amazing luxury.

We arrived at this 17 century former monastery, intact yet renovated with great restraint, through a recommendation. It is an extraordinary place put together with care and attention. Rooms are large as are the bathrooms with spectacular views and a pool. It is a quiet hotel that grows on you. There is no bar or restaurant just beautiful communal areas and many quiet private places to sit inside and outside. The breakfasts are very generous with a buffet all either home made or sourced locally with fresh orange juice, home made jams, fresh cake, fruit, eggs and so much more. There is always someone on hand to help. Our room rate was 140 euros which offers amazing value for money. A special place I cannot recommend enough

The location was very convenient, and in a truly beautiful spot. The convent is a clean and beautiful place. The view from my room to the courtyard was very pretty, and the breakfast was good. The last day, two ladies even brought my breakfast to my room without me even asking- I thought that a very thoughtful gesture. The staff were all lovely, with only one exception- the manager, who I believe, owns the place. I am disabled, and overheard her making a joke about me and disabled people to her staff, which, in addition to being completely non professional, put a real damper on the entire stay. I asked to meet with her for a few minutes ( I was going to dicuss this)and she agreed . She never showed.I waited 2 hours. Other than the discriminitory behavior of the manager, the stay was very nearly perfect.

So much potential and yet... This place could easily be a 5-star hotel but they are in serious need of investing in equipment. Unfortunately, due to the lack of A/C in the rooms, we were very uncomfortable during our 3-night stay. On top of that, a smell of mold welcomed us inside their so-called closet due to the lack of ventilation. Finally total lack of furniture to properly store our clothes (only hangers) which made our room very messy quickly.

One of a kind! Going into our stay, we knew this would be a unique experience and it did not disappoint! Convento de Sao Francisco is surely one of a kind. The parking was a bit limited but not a problem for us. It feels like you are entering a castle when coming through the large front entrance. At first we were a bit unsure where to go, but the young girl at the front desk welcomed us warmly and gave us a brief tour. The room itself was incredibly spacious and you feel like you're saying in a castle. So if you are looking for a traditionally cozy, finished hotel this is certainly not for you. The bed was large and comfortable, as well as the bedding and pillows. Our room had a view into town (the park next door) as well as into the back garden. The shower was a bit awkwardly set up, but the water was warm and comfortable. The stone of the bathroom vanity was also very classy but fit the style of the hotel. While I found a cockroach the first morning of our stay, again I feel this comes with the territory of essentially being in a semi-outdoor environment and is NOT a complaint. Similarly, you may want to bring ear plugs here, as it seemed every footstep from upstairs could be heard, as well as neighboring showers (oddly at 4am on consecutive nights...). The breakfast did not have any meat, but was very, very classy and tasty. The cheeses, fruits, juices, and breads were all delicious. We would definitely stay here, and wander the halls of a "castle" again!

The pool was not well cared for - water was murky - one day the cleaning robot was left in the all day and generally there was white fluffy stuff swimming in the water like mold/algae

We had the most wonderful stay at Convento de Sao Francisco. Staying in the property is an amazing experience. Our room was very comfortable and nicely furnished and the bed had lovely linens. The convent property has so much atmosphere and is furnished with beautiful period pieces as well as comfortable couches. As it was January we did not use the pool or garden but they looked very nice. The breakfast was very hearty and very good. We had local fruit, yogurt, cheese, eggs, cereal. Everything was fresh and really tasty. Waking up to eat pineapple and bananas from the garden is a great experience! The hotel hosts, Jose and Manuela, were so helpful and kind and gave us good directions. We visited in January so the town was quiet but I would like to come back to see the marina, beach and town squares in the warmer temperatures! The town is very convenient to the main city, the airport, and other tourist sites. We loved our stay in this unique and comfortable hotel. Thank you!
