Åre ski resort Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
A must-visit Nordic trip in a lifetime - Åre ski resort
I was invited to go skiing in Sweden with friends at Christmas. How could I refuse as someone who has never skied or been to Sweden before!
The snow accumulation on the roads in Sweden in winter is quite serious, so driving can be slippery. If it snows, the visibility is even more obstructed; coupled with short daylight hours, it often requires "night driving", which is really hard for the driver! Therefore, it is recommended not to arrange too much driving time in one day, otherwise it will not only prevent you from enjoying the fun of playing, but also increase the danger.
You can take the cable car to the top of the ski resort, where the scenery is very good, and there is also a very gentle green trail. However, I fell off the cable car halfway (it's the kind of cable car that can't leave the ground). Then I stood up and found that there was a red trail going down and a 45-degree slope going up. Driven by a strong survival instinct, I called for rescue at the ski resort and was pulled away by a snowmobile, which was a shameful and interesting experience.
If you have the chance, you can come to Åre to experience it. A Nordic trip must include skiing!
Arctic Scenery Skiing Trip - Oulu Ski Resort
For the first time when buying a ticket, I actively asked, 'Does your ticket include insurance? How much is it to buy extra insurance?'
✅Transportation: There are trains, and there is also an airport nearby. The train takes quite a long time, it takes more than eight hours from Skien; if you buy the plane ticket in advance, it's quite cheap, not more expensive than the train.
✅Accommodation: Accommodation is quite expensive, but if you book half a month in advance, it will be much cheaper. It's probably around one to two thousand kroner per night (the kind of guest house for two people).
✅City transportation: I didn't see any buses on Google map (there should be some, right?), I took the ski bus, the ticket is included in the ski ticket. You can private message me for the bus schedule.
✅Keeping warm: -20° is indeed very cold, any skin exposed to the air will stiffen in a minute or two, and your nose hair can freeze into frost. But it's not damp cold here, wear a thicker down jacket, wear some thermal clothes inside, and you won't feel cold.
Personal experience, skiing feels quite dangerous, often downhill + turning + one side of the cliff (maybe because I'm not good at it), learning to brake is very important, at least you can be careful and you won't fall too badly. The biggest difference from ice skating is that ice skating is on a flat surface, even if you can't, as long as you don't rush, you can easily stop, and the speed is not fast; skiing is all downhill, if you can't brake, it's really life-threatening. Also, the difference between ice skating shoes and ordinary shoes is not big, skiing has a very long board, which is quite unfamiliar.
The holy land of skiing in Sweden, Åre Ski Resort
Drive to Åre Ski Resort with friends. This skiing holy land has a history of hundreds of years. The Åre sign on the mountain is a must-check-in place when you come. Because we came for 4 days and it was cloudy for 3 days, we took crazy photos on the rare blue bird day.
This is my first time in this ski resort. I personally think the difficulty is above average. It is suitable for double-board ski friends with a certain foundation. The mountain is mainly narrow red and black roads, and there are some wide blue roads on the side, which are very suitable for single-board play. Although the ski resort provides ski equipment rental services, I personally recommend preparing a set of suitable equipment for yourself. At least you must buy a pair of comfortable snow shoes! Then match the rented snowboard. The companion was rubbed with blisters and broken skin because the snow shoes did not fit, which resulted in a very poor experience in the next few days.
Overall, this trip is very worthwhile, with countless joys and new experiences. There are still many things that I haven't had time to experience, such as local specialty restaurants and after ski. The main reason is that I only want to lie in bed every day after sliding from the opening to the closing and taking off the equipment😂 I will come again next time.
Beautiful Swedish ski resort - Åre Ski Resort
I've been skiing at the Åre Ski Resort in Sweden, the weather has been really good these past few days, every day is a cloudless sunny day, there are few people on the ski trails, and the snow is also not bad, there is rarely ice; the sun doesn't set until almost eight o'clock at night, the sunset is super beautiful! I've made up for all the Vitamin D I lacked in winter, it's so refreshing~
I've summarized some points to note from my skiing trip to Åre Ski Resort:
1, We stayed in Björnen. There is no direct bus from the train station to Björnen, you have to first take a bus to Åre Kabinbana, then change to a white bus to Björnen. It's very inconvenient, you must check the timetable carefully.
2, The last gondola to the top of the mountain is at four in the afternoon, other cable cars and buses have their last run at four thirty. We skied a bit far today and felt that we couldn't ski back before the cable car closed, so we decided to go to Kabinbana to catch the last bus. When hanging on the T bar, I was really scared I would fall off. I tried my best, but in the end, I still didn't catch up, I could only take a taxi back. Taxis must be called by phone, they will only come when called.
3, You can take the gondola up to Åre, and then climb a bit or take a snowmobile to the top of the mountain, there is a cafe at the top of the mountain, a snowmobile ride up costs 100kr each time.
