Xiaogan Guild Hall in Liuchang Hutong, Caichang, Dongcheng District, Beijing The hutong is 276 meters long. Caichang Hutong got its name because it was a place for storing hay in the past. During the Ming Dynasty, it was called Yangfang Caichang Tong, and in the Qing Dynasty, it was known as Caichang Hutong. The hutongs from Caotou Tiao to Shitiao are arranged in order from west to east. Caichang Henghu runs horizontally across the second to the tenth hutongs. According to 'Manuscript of the Capital's Alleys and Lanes': 'The reed garden is the collection of hutongs and lanes of reeds, which was the place for storing hay in the former Ming Dynasty, hence the hutongs to the north of Caichang are all named after it.' In the past, the houses here were neat, and many were inhabited by middle and upper-class families, including the Xiaogan Guild Hall. In 1965, the current name was established. This place is characterized by the unique north-south oriented hutongs of the southern part of Beijing city, the small and exquisite siheyuan with doors opening to the east and west, embodying a strong local residential atmosphere of the city's south and reflecting profound folk culture.
