Yungang Grottoes Cave 18 Closed for Maintenance

Due to continuous rainfall this year, some areas of the Yungang Grottoes have experienced water seepage. The rainfall this year has exceeded 810 millimeters, far surpassing the average annual rainfall. To accurately inspect and scientifically address the seepage issue, Cave 18 of the Yungang Grottoes has been closed for maintenance starting December 8. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Yungang Grottoes are renowned worldwide for their grand scale and exquisite carving art. Cave 18 is one of the most representative caves, featuring finely detailed and uniquely expressive Buddha statues that carry profound historical and cultural significance. Although visitors cannot enter Cave 18 temporarily, other open areas of the Yungang Grottoes still allow people to appreciate the superb craftsmanship of ancient artisans and the unique charm of Buddhist art, experiencing the blend of history and culture. Once maintenance is completed and Cave 18 reopens, it will welcome visitors in an even more perfect state.
