Gifu Castle Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Gifu Castle
#thingstodo One of the well-known castles in Japan! You need to climb a bit after getting off from the cable car. However, it is worth climbing the mountain for 10-15 minutes! Amazing view and nice cafe-restaurant. You will enjoy one of the greatest views for sure! Need to pay small money for entrance of the castle and the zoo!
I Highly Recommended to visit this place
GIFU CASTLE
Gifu-jo, originally called Inabayama-jo, is built atop the 338m Mt. Kinka in Gifu prefecture. It is famous for being where Oda Nobunaga took his first steps toward the unification of Japan towers above.
The peculiarity of this Japanese castle is that it’s located at the top of a rock. Plus, when you climb it and reach the pinnacle, you feel like a king because you can admire such a whirlwind landscape!
I wish to be back in Gifu this year!

Gifu Castle
Gifu Castle (岐阜城, Gifu-jō) is a castle located in the city of Gifu, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Along with Mount Kinka and the Nagara River, it is one of the main symbols of the city. Gifu Castle was first built by the Nikaidō clan between 1201 and 1204 during the Kamakura Period. Originally called Inabayama Castle (稲葉山城 Inabayama-jō), Gifu Castle has gone through a great number of repairs over the course of several generations. Even though it was famous as a physically powerful castle, it was once taken over by a mere sixteen men.
During the Sengoku period a samurai by the name of Takenaka Hanbei went to the castle, ostensibly to visit his sick brother. In reality, he went to the castle not to visit his brother but to kill Saitō Tatsuoki, the lord of castle. When Hanbei struck at him, Tatsuoki was very confused—believing an enemy army had come to attack him—and fled. Thus, Hanbei obtained Inabayama Castle with relative ease. Later, Hanbei returned the castle to his lord, but Tatsuoki had lost an immeasurable amount of reputation and honor due to his perceived cowardly flight from the castle.
In 1567, Oda Nobunaga launched an attack on Mino Province from Sunomata Castle, led his forces across the Kiso River, and marched straight to the castle town of Inoguchi (now Gifu city) attracting the support of many Saito retainers along the way. Nobunaga laid siege to Inabayama Castle on 13 September. Even though the defenders were demoralized to see the banners of Saito retainers among the attacking army, the mountaintop castle was still in a nearly impregnable position. The siege took about two weeks. Near the end of the siege, Nobunaga's retainer Kinoshita Tōkichirō led a small party up the steep cliffs of Mount Kinka, entered the castle from the unguarded rear, and opened the front gates, allowing the attacking forces to enter. After Tatsuoki was defeated, Nobunaga claimed the castle and made it his primary base-of-operations.
Nobunaga renamed the stronghold "Gifu Castle," following an example set by an ancient Chinese practice. Nobunaga then proceeded to renovate the castle into a far more impressive and grandiose structure than its previous incarnation. Luis Frois, a renowned Jesuit Missionary from Portugal, was personally invited by Nobunaga to visit the castle. After a short stay in Gifu, Frois praised the castle's extraordinary beauty.
The Battle of Gifu Castle in 1600 served as a prelude to both the Battle of Sekigahara and the destruction of Gifu Castle in the same year. After the demolition of the castle, part of the structure was brought to Kanō Castle to the south to fortify its position.

Gifu Castle - Japan: A beautiful castle located on the top of the mountain. We have to take a cable car up to the mountain and walk up on stairs a little bit. Once arriving, we can see a beautiful panorama view of the city when looking down. #merrychristmas

Gifu Park
#thingstodo
Worth a visit. However, be mindful that they may have their museums and lift shut down on the day you visit. As there isn't much in this area otherwise, that can feel bad.
It's still very nice to walk around! However with the lift and museums shut down the whole of the park takes less than half an hour to walk through. If you're up for a mountain hike, then there is definitely more for you here.

Gujo Hachiman Castle Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Gujo Hachiman Castle stands as a proud sentinel 🇯🇵
#japantrip
Perched majestically atop a verdant hill, Gujo Hachiman boasts the regal presence of its feudal castle, a testament to its storied past. Originally commissioned by feudal lord Endo Morikazu in 1559, the castle's enduring legacy endured the tumultuous winds of history. Although the original structure succumbed to the upheaval of the Meiji Restoration in 1870, its spirit persevered, reborn from the ashes in 1933, meticulously reconstructed with wood. Today, Gujo Hachiman Castle stands as a proud sentinel, its ancient walls echoing with whispers of bygone eras. As the oldest reconstructed wooden castle in Japan, it serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience and heritage of this enchanting town, commanding admiration from all who gaze upon its timeless silhouette.
A quaint town steeped in history and natural beauty 🇯🇵
#japantrip
Nestled along the tranquil riverside of Gifu Prefecture lies Gujo Hachiman, a quaint town steeped in history and natural beauty. Founded centuries ago with the rise of Hachiman Castle, its pristine waterways remain a lifeline, mirroring the town's enduring spirit. Strolling through its cobblestone streets, visitors are transported back in time, witnessing the timeless rituals of rice washing, vegetable cleansing, and laundry chores, all performed in harmony with the gentle flow of water. The town's picturesque canals and fountains evoke a serene atmosphere, inviting exploration and contemplation. Yet, it's during the vibrant summer dance festival that Gujo truly comes alive, captivating travelers with its infectious energy and cultural splendor. In Gujo Hachiman, the past whispers its secrets, and the present dances to the rhythm of tradition.
The ancient streets and ancient temples of Shangbafan in central Japan are quiet and elegant.
The street in the city under the mountainside of Gossip Castle, crossing the old street and the waterway, both sides are the wooden houses preserved in the Edo period, and a low-key but welcome view.
The first time I came to the Gossip, I used to walk in the old streets of Shira-machi, Igaya-machi and Liumachi.
I especially like to flow through the waterways between the old streets of Yasaka, and these waterways were built for fire prevention in the seventeenth century. Nowadays, it has become a tourist resource, and because of its excellent water quality, it is still drinking water as a local resident. There are also a variety of shops selling local products on the old street. We bought the savory savory in the county, the savory savory that was eaten in the morning in Gero, and the rich persimmon that was seen all the way.
The Mahayana Temple is a hidden temple on the staff floor. At the beginning we walked through the door without paying attention. It was to see a group of Japanese tour groups with guides turning in from the thin alleys. We only thought that it should be inside. Have a nice view. There is no one in the Mahayana Temple, only four of us. At the foot of the big red maple, there are already thick leaves, and the door of the temple is closed, surrounded by ancient trees.
Speaking of Japanese tourism, many people still have the impression that they stay in Osaka, a big city like Tokyo. In fact, there are many quiet and beautiful small cities in Japan worth visiting.
Yoshigami Hachiman is located in the center of Omein in the center of Gifu Prefecture, Japan. It is a castle town built in the 16th century. So far, the small town still retains the appearance of Japanese streets in the Edo period, especially the residences of various craftsmen and staff. The artisan town and the staff town are quaint and full of charm. In the summer, there are 30 nights of dance in the county. It is very special.
The small town is not big, there are not many tourists, even in the golden week, there are not many people, the tricky river, the playful children, the friendly and harmonious neighborhood, constitute a fascinating harmonious picture. Walking down the city town, you can hear the sound of the water everywhere, very comfortable.

Gifu Family Park
#thingstodo A mostly free great place to bring the kids. You have to pay to ride the go carts, boats, and bicycles on the rails, but there are plenty of free things to do like super long slides, grass slides, various monkey bars, trampolines, and carp feeding (¥100 for food). Keep your eyes open for praying mantis, grasshoppers, and butterflies. Bring a picnic sheet and rent and set up home base to rest between your activities. Plenty of public bathrooms.
