Huangguoshu Waterfall

The Huangguoshu Waterfall group is like a string of brilliant pearls inlaid on the Baishui River, which flows through Zhenning and Guanling counties in Guizhou Province. Among them, the main Huangguoshu Waterfall is the one with the highest drop and the largest flow in this group. The winding Baishui River flows from north to south, like a white jade ribbon, rushing down from the steep cliffs, surging and pouring directly into the Rhinoceros Pool. The Huangguoshu Waterfall was historically known as the Baishui River Waterfall, also called 'Huangjueshu' Waterfall, named after the widely distributed 'Huangge Rong' in the area. The Huangguoshu Waterfall is located on the Baishui River in Zhenning County, Anshun City, Guizhou Province. It is about 77.8 meters high and 101.0 meters wide, and is the only waterfall in the world that can be viewed from six directions: up, down, left, right, front, and back. It is also the only waterfall in the world with a naturally penetrating water curtain cave where one can listen, watch, and touch from both inside and outside the cave. The waterfall cascades into the Rhinoceros Pool, and the water flow successively passes through the Three-Level Beach, Horseshoe Beach, Pig Dragon Pool, Oil Fish Well, Pot Bottom Pond, Bay Pond, and Bubbling Pond, filling the entire riverbed of the Huangguoshu Waterfall with splashes. When the traveler Xu Xiake visited here, he praised: 'The pearls are pounded, the jade is broken, the spray is surging back, like smoke and mist rising into the sky, the momentum is very fierce... Among the waterfalls I have seen, there are those that are several times higher, but none so wide. However, when looking down from the side above, one cannot help but feel awe-stricken.' There are now two statues of Xu Xiake in the Huangguoshu scenic area, and the old gentleman may well be China's earliest professional backpacker. Although the Huangguoshu Waterfall has long been famous, seeing its true form is another kind of shock. Upon arriving here, the first thing that awakens is people's ears, the 'rumbling' sound of the water is like thunder, like countless cannons firing together. Accompanied by the tremendous sound of water, the passionate and wild Baishui River falls from the cliffs tens of meters high, rushing into the deep pool for that mysterious rendezvous. There, the water is turbulent, waves surge, and the primal life force of water is fully unleashed. They roar, they scream, they splash beads and jade, and the mist envelops the clear sky for dozens of meters around. The magic of the Huangguoshu Waterfall does not stop there. From a distance, the waterfall looks like a white ribbon hanging down, following the mountain cliff. Only when one gets closer does one realize that there is a gap between the waterfall and the cliff, and visitors can walk behind the waterfall for a closer view. Walking on the rocky path, human voices are completely drowned out by the roaring water, the waterfall is within reach, and people seem to merge with the waterfall.
