Before coming to Turkey, Cotton Castle was the place I had the least expectations for, mainly because the internet said there was a big difference between the photos and the reality, and some even said the water smelled bad🥲 The reality is that it was super beautiful that day!! The local guide said that Cotton Castle is estimated to disappear completely in ten years, mainly due to the initial unreasonable development and the discharge of wastewater, so we are very lucky to be able to see it now! Also, you must visit the adjacent ancient Greek city ruins of Hierapolis, which is also part of this World Heritage Site🏛️. 'Hierapolis' comes from the Greek language, meaning 'holy city,' which objectively explains the history of this ancient city. Hierapolis was founded in the 2nd century BC by the ancient Greek kingdom of Pergamon and reached its peak of prosperity after continuous improvements by the ancient Romans. However, no matter how powerful humans are, they cannot withstand the force of nature, and an almost perfect ancient Roman city was reduced to ruins after an unprecedented earthquake, leaving only remnants. 🤯 Romantic yet decadent, probably the best way to describe Cotton Castle. I went there before sunrise early in the morning!
