Travel Guide: Solo Non-Driving Trip in Western Sichuan - Litang to Ganzi

Ganzi County is a county town surrounded 360° by snow-capped mountains 🏔️, including the Kawagebo Peaks, Zizhuo, and Gangga mountain ranges, along with the endless Yalong River, forming the most enchanting snowy mountain town in Western Sichuan. It’s absolutely stunning! Looking up, you see magnificent snow-covered peaks so close they seem within reach. Every snapshot is like a highland masterpiece with a built-in filter 📸. It’s definitely an underrated photo paradise worth visiting. Here’s a detailed share of public transportation from Litang to Ganzi County and my travel experience. Solo Western Sichuan trip updates coming your way~ ✅ Chengdu → Ya’an (Shenmulei, Dawagengzha) → Kangding → Xinduqiao (Tagong Grassland, Gunong Village, Balangshengdu) → Daocheng Yading → Litang. Check previous guides for details. 📷 Fujifilm XS10, Tamron 18-300 🚘 Public Transport Litang → Ganzi County Bus: Purchase tickets via Chuanzang Travel, boarding at Litang Station Kangnan Passenger Transport Center, alighting at Ganzi (Xingfu Hotel Parking Lot). 💰121 RMB, 5 hours. 🛵 Ganzi County has shared electric scooters, so getting around is not a problem. The scenery in Ganzi County is no less impressive than famous tourist spots. Here’s my itinerary ⬇️ ❶ Ganzi County Yalong River Viewing Platform (must-visit): Filming locations 3️⃣ and 4️⃣, featuring snow mountains, Yalong River, and dead trees in one frame. ❷ Northern Kang Trade Center Demonstration Market: A bustling area with many small vendors. ❸ Hanren Temple: A temple in the town center where you can experience Tibetan monastery culture. ❹ Huishi Square: Built to commemorate the 1936 victorious meeting of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army’s 2nd and 6th Corps in Ganzi. Few visitors in the off-season, but the guard is willing to open the gate. ❺ White Pagoda Temple: Centered around a large white pagoda, surrounded by 119 small white pagodas representing all villages in the county. ❻ King Gesar City (must-visit): Filming locations 5️⃣ to 🔟. The lake beside the city is very clean, clear, and calm, showing a sky-blue color. You can capture reflections of distant snow mountains. ❼ Kongma Temple (must-visit): Filming locations 1️⃣1️⃣ to 1️⃣7️⃣. This spot offers a wide view of Ganzi County and snow mountains in one frame. ✅ Tips: Sunset in the afternoon may offer better “sunlight on the mountain peaks” effects, with sunlight shining on the Kawagebo sunset peaks, which are more prominent. In the morning, the Kawagebo peaks are backlit and not visible for this effect, but you can see the sunrise on Zizhuo as shown in photo 1️⃣2️⃣. ❽ Genbuxia Ancient City (must-visit): Filming location 1️⃣8️⃣ (Jiefang Road). The ancient city’s houses are built layer upon layer, looking spectacular from afar. ❾ Ganzi Monastery: The largest Gelugpa monastery in Ganzi Prefecture. Built on a hillside north of the town. You can also capture panoramic views of Ganzi County and snow mountains here, though the perspective is not as good as Kongma Temple.
