Roaming Appetites

Dajue Temple in Yixing

Dajue Temple in Yixing is located in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province, and is a Zen Buddhist site of the Linji school. It was originally built during the Xianchun period of the Southern Song Dynasty (1265-1274), with a history of over seven hundred years; it is also the ancestral monastery where Master Hsing Yun, the founder of Fo Guang Shan, was ordained. In 1989, the Master returned to Yixing to pay homage to his ancestors and saw that not a single tile of the monastery remained, thus he resolved to revive his ancestral monastery. In 2005, when conditions were ripe, Master Hsing Yun rebuilt the Fo Guang ancestral monastery, Dajue Temple. The current site is located on the east side of Hengshan Reservoir. Surrounded by the Jilong Mountain, the area boasts superior resources, nestled by the mountain and water, creating a unique regional landscape feature. It is a combination of modern and ancient culture, with an antique architectural style. Through the introduction of Buddhist culture, it spreads Humanistic Buddhism. Master Hsing Yun specially composed a poem: One Buddha and two pagodas span two worlds, three sides of white jade unravel the world's mysteries. Thousands of monks and believers cultivate blessings and wisdom, people from five continents and seven groups come from all directions.
