Taklamakan Desert scenery

The Taklamakan Desert is located in the Tarim Basin in southern Xinjiang. In the Uighur language, 'Tak', 'Tag', and 'Bog'da' in 'Bog'da' all mean mountain, and 'Lamakan' accurately translates to 'The Great Desert', carrying the meaning of 'vastness'. Therefore, 'Taklamakan' signifies 'The Great Desert at the foot of the mountains'. The desert spans about 1000 kilometers from east to west and is about 400 kilometers wide from north to south, with a total area of 337,600 square kilometers. It is the largest desert in China and the second-largest in the world, hence the name 'Taklamakan Great Desert'. It is also the world's largest shifting sand desert, with the largest area of moving sands. The altitude in the western and southern parts of the desert ranges between 1200 to 1500 meters, while the eastern and northern parts are between 800 to 1000 meters.
