Visit the temple of the Queen of heaven in the morning then hang out around and through its southern streets during market time. Go back after sunset for a busy and messy atmosphere. Go to Kaiyuan temple in the afternoon and hang out on Xi jie, have tea and watch the sunset from one of the rooftop. Favorite one Baishui Haoxi, a nice-edgy renovated Republic of China building (around 1930). Get lost in the small streets and you will see small family temples built at every other corner. Other great temples, Confucian temple, Chengtian temple, Tonghuai temple, to see both by day and pass by by night. Stay at the Dongmian inn nearby the Chengtian temple, great host and ideal location. A half-day trip to Xunpucun is easy by didi, this village has old houses with walls built out of oysters shell, unique. Good destination for seafood and fish. Chengtian Temple, located on Nanjun Road, also known as Yuetai Temple, is an ancient temple built in the Five Dynasties. Its status is no less than that of Kaiyuan Temple. It is rare that it is quietly located in the downtown area. It does not stand like a general Zen house, posing a high-cold posture, but more like a quiet garden. The most important thing is that there are no tickets here. Outside the temple, it is the lively Nanjun Lane. However, as soon as I stepped into the platform, I was isolated and noisy. The branches and leaves of the big banyan tree are covered with stone roads. With the sunshine, the heart is quiet.

DAY 1 Jinjiang Close to the airport, start the trip from Jinjiang. Ride an electric bike to enjoy satay noodles, earthworm jelly, and stone flower jelly, then take a taxi to Wulin Village to see the red brick ancient houses. Afterward, a fifty-minute ride to Luojia Temple, only catching a glimpse of the sunset’s red glow. Walked by the seaside, then went to Shishi to eat at a restaurant, full and rested. DAY 2 Jinjiang - Quanzhou Before 9 AM at Wudian Market, the shops were still closed, very quiet. Like Wulin, it has red brick ancient houses but with more convenient transportation. After shopping, ate rice noodle soup and peanut soup, warm and sweet, loved it. In the afternoon, visited the Min-Taiwan Relations Museum and Quanzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, (the City Museum and Maritime Museum are both under renovation). After finishing, went out at 5:30 PM to eat and then strolled through the alleys and West Street. Riding a bike in the ancient city is very economical, with city government bike-sharing stations near various attractions, free parking within 1 hour, and you can lock the bike anytime. DAY 3 Quanzhou A wonderful day starts with a hearty meal. De Wen shrimp noodles and Hou A Po’s braised meat rice dumplings are both very close to Xuanmiao Temple, [Xuanmiao Temple - Chengtian Temple - Confucian Temple] is one route. Rode a bike to Tianhou Temple, spent 2 yuan to draw a fortune slip, and experienced the cup divination ritual. Biked back to Guandi Temple, where incense offerings were very lively; not far from there is Qingjing Mosque. Goldfish Alley, Flower Alley, and Chengtian Alley extend from Zhongshan Road, hiding small shops and churches. Couldn’t get tickets for the puppet theater, so went to Su Tingyu’s former residence for an experience. DAY 4 Quanzhou - Xiamen In the morning, visited Kaiyuan Temple, had beef on West Street at noon, satisfied, then took the train. Quanzhou Station to Xiamen Station is quite convenient. Visited Zengcuoan, Shanhai Trail, and even biked to Huangcuo Beach. After eating, returned to the accommodation by 7 PM, then went out for another round of strolling, took a taxi to Yanwu Bridge, walked along the seaside at Shapowei, Shapowei has many small shops, not as colorful as during the day, but the night view is also nice. DAY 5 Xiamen - Gulangyu Island Early morning ate satay noodles, then went to Dongdu Pier to take a ferry to Gulangyu Island, clean streets and beautiful buildings, a day for walking only. Not far from the pier is the Organ Art Center and Museum, with performances at half and full hours. Followed the route Longtou Road - Haoyue Garden - Photography Exhibition Hall - Yuyuan - Shuzhuang Garden - Sunlight Rock, completing the combined ticket check-in, just in time to see the sunset on Sunlight Rock. The return ferry docks near Zhongshan Road and Bashi, perfect for filling your stomach. DAY 6 Zhangzhou - Tulou Joined a large tour group to the Tulou, the guide occasionally promoted local specialties, and I impulsively bought ginger candy. People still live inside the Tulou, with relic shrines, gun holes, and clothes drying along the inner circle of the buildings coexisting. Between the Tulou is a village called Yunshuiyao, home to many century-old banyan trees, the shade reflects on the river, tinting the water green, can’t imagine how many people in Sichuan would be drinking tea and playing mahjong by the river. DAY 7 Xiamen The Botanical Garden is free before 6:30 AM, the elevator at the south gate for sea views was closed, so relied on walking the whole way. Climbing the steps and looking back, you can see the sunrise. The ginger family plant area feels very Southeast Asian, the flower garden had nothing much, the tropical rainforest, desert area, and vine area are connected. Not far from the Botanical Garden’s west gate is the Bell and Drum Cableway, a loop ride to see mountains, city, and sea, a unique Xiamen experience. The sunshine was great, the sea surface looked like colorful candy wrappers, the dragon boat pond shimmered with ripples, many small shops near Dasha, Jiageng Park is a bit out of the way for sunset viewing. Rode the seaside bike path in the night, ending the holiday.

Countdown begins! The autumn atmosphere in Quanzhou Ancient City is about to reach its peak～ If you want to chase the autumn in the ancient city, Chengtian Temple is definitely the must-visit spot! Inside the red-walled ancient temple, in front of the Sutra Library, beside the Release Pond, and at the place where Master Hongyi transformed, the ginkgo trees will gradually turn golden. They are not towering but carry a Zen aura. When the wind blows, the leaves fall softly, as if you have stepped into a golden ancient scroll. Especially the ginkgo trees near the Guangqin Buddhist Library, which are even more intensely yellow. Taking panoramic shots with the upturned eaves is absolutely stunning; there are also some great spots for close-up shots where the light and shadow fall on the leaves, creating a hazy and photogenic effect～ No reservation needed and free of charge. The best viewing period is from mid to late December to early January. Bookmark it now, and rush over when the leaves turn yellow! On one side is the tranquil Zen of the ancient temple, on the other is the warm and brilliant ginkgo—this is what autumn and winter in Quanzhou should look like～

Chengtian Road was originally named Chengtian Alley. It is located on the east side of Zhongshan Middle Road in Licheng District, starting from Zhongshan Middle Road in the west and connecting to Nanjun Road in the east. The alley is over 300 meters long and leads directly to Chengtian Temple, known as the "Top Temple of Southern Fujian," hence the name Chengtian Alley. At the west entrance of the alley stands an inscribed stele, and on the east side of the alley is the ancient Chen family residence of the civil and military imperial scholars, all of which testify to the distinguished heritage of this historic alley.

​ Slowly feel this city❤ Itinerary Overview Morning: Visit Guandi Temple, Tianhou Palace, Chengtian Zen Temple, and Kaiyuan Temple, spending about 5 hours. Spent 2.5 hours at Kaiyuan Temple, which has a deep historical background. I recommend hiring a guide (I wandered at my own pace, so of course I missed some knowledge sharing). Noon: (More accurately, afternoon) Had ginger duck near the scenic area, which was pretty okay. Finally got to try it~ Afternoon: Watched Quanzhou puppet show, it was amazing, couldn’t stop applauding 👏. Went to stroll around West Lake Park, watched others fly kites for a while, and enjoyed the sunset by the lake. It was really comfortable. 🌴My feelings It was my first time touching so many big banyan trees, and I was so lucky to take photos under the Bodhi tree. The thousand-year-old mulberry trees still bear mulberries, and there are banyan trees and various vegetation everywhere. Strolling in West Lake Park is so relaxing, I started to envy the people living here. Quanzhou is great, I will come again next time.
