After a great stay at the Kuaian Hotel by the rice paddies, I decided to check out the Kuaian Nachiura store, which I'd been eyeing for a while. It was about a ten-minute walk with my luggage, and the hotel was right by the road, with cherry blossoms in full bloom. My room had a fantastic ocean view, and I could even see Bentenjima island from my balcony. I managed to catch the sunset on the beach, which was wonderfully quiet and peaceful – I loved it. In the evening, I enjoyed another relaxing hot spring bath. For breakfast the next day, we had a reservation for 8:15 AM, but I woke up early to catch the sunrise and thought we might be able to eat earlier. To my surprise, we were politely turned away and told to stick to our reservation time (it turns out breakfast is quite a formal affair!). We realized we were a bit too casual and were heading back to our room to wait when the friendly elderly gentleman at reception called us back and found us a table. We had a beautiful view of a corner of Bentenjima island while enjoying a very formal breakfast. It was a wonderful experience overall.
The hotel facility is excellent and perfectly clean with a high-class traditional japanese service standard. Our room was a deluxe room with private hot spring tub. It's a little pricy while I think it's perfect to celebrate the anniversary with my wife. Dinner and breakfast were good, while it may not be the best comparing with other hotels in the major cities. The sightseeing points are also within 5-10 mins driving distance from the hotel. We expected to watch the sunset at the balcony, while on that day the weather was a bit cloudy so we didn't take a nice photo here.
The room was very clean and the front desk staff were really friendly. I asked for a room facing away from the railway tracks and they happily switched it for me. I booked this hotel for my Kumano Kodo trek. It's small but has everything you need: a bathtub, shower, desk, and carpet. I forgot to take photos, but the room was probably around 8-9 square meters. It's quite small, but the soundproofing was decent. I booked breakfast included, which was pretty simple. I arrived early because I had a train to catch, so I just grabbed a quick bite and headed out. It's located in the countryside, so there aren't many places to explore, and a lot of shops close early. I ended up getting dinner from a convenience store, which was conveniently located right next to the station. P.S. The electric kettle was surprisingly made of plastic!
Everything about this place was great! Shirahama is such a comfortable and relaxing destination, and the hotel was excellent too. I was personally very satisfied and have already recommended it to friends. They're quite interested and want to come back with me next time for a vacation. The convenience stores nearby are super handy, and there's a supermarket close by for some browsing too.
Really loved it! The hot springs were so relaxing, and the breakfast spread was incredibly generous. The view from the window was lovely. On the second floor, there are lots of entertainment options, including massage chairs and a wide selection of manga to read. Just a heads-up: the hot spring pools switch between day and night, so make sure you don't go to the wrong one!
The hotel is quiet and private, with complete facilities and enthusiastic, professional staff. We came during the off-season, so the price was very reasonable. Since we had to catch the earliest JR to the airport the next day, which was around 6 AM, the staff enthusiastically and actively helped me arrange transportation. It was indeed very early, making it difficult to find a taxi, so in the end, the hotel's car took us to the JR station. It was a truly heartwarming experience during our trip. Thank you very much!
This hotel definitely deserves a 5-star rating; it pretty much met all my expectations for this vacation. Make sure to book a sea-facing room! The rooms are quite spacious, and they offer futon-laying service. When you open the window, you're directly overlooking the sea. Be aware that some room types might have the parking lot obstructing the view, so it's not a completely unobstructed oceanfront view. The best part of the hotel is undoubtedly the hot springs, which span three or four levels. The lowest level is open-air, allowing you to experience soaking in the water while gazing out at the Pacific Ocean in the morning. The hot springs were absolutely the highlight of our trip, incredibly comfortable and relaxing, so much so that we spontaneously extended our stay by an extra night. The dinner included with the room booking was just okay, but breakfast was decent. There are several restaurants within a 10-minute walk, so you don't necessarily need to book dinner with your room. The facilities are comprehensive, including billiards, KTV, and a bar.
The room was very spacious and had no strange smells. The hotel staff even helped move our stored luggage into the room and provided complimentary snacks and water, which was a very thoughtful touch! The TV showed the occupancy of various public areas, which was super considerate. The hot springs were also very comfortable, with good ambiance and cleanliness. After a dip, they offered popsicles, which was a nice treat. There were two large bookshelves nearby where you could pick out your favorite manga to read, and right outside was the massage chair area – absolutely perfect! In the evening, they offered free late-night noodles that were quite tasty, and there was a self-service drink bar. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of choices, and I even got to try local specialty sushi, which was a unique experience. There was an electronic scale at the stairwell for weighing luggage, which was very convenient. I'd love to visit again if I get the chance!
I took a taxi from JR station for about 1800 yen, and it arrived quickly. By bus, it costs 260 yen and is a 10-minute walk; you can use a Suica card.
The receptionist was fluent in both Japanese and English.
The room was fully equipped with all necessary amenities, including separate men's and women's skincare products, and even a small packet of laundry detergent.
It's easy to find places to eat nearby.
It's closest to Shirahama Beach.
We checked back in after leaving for a day, leaving our luggage at the hotel. The receptionist said they would put it in our room when we returned.
I would definitely choose to stay here again next time I'm in Shirahama; it's new and convenient!
Our experience at Taoya NachiKasuura was just fantastic. The hotel is conveniently located pretty close to Katsuura Station (also bus stop). The waterfront property is nice. I believe all the rooms have water view thanks to their intentional design. The sunrise in the morning is NICE. Hotel has great amenities - baths and open air baths are clean and convenient; the two lounges offering free snacks and drinks (including beers, wines and sales) is a big extra! And the food selections at the dinner and breakfast buffets are wonderful.

GGuest UserWe stayed in this lovely family hotel for a night, we opted for room stay with dinner and breakfast. There's no shops or restaurant near by, so highly suggest to choose the stay with meals option, otherwise there's cooking facility within the room also, so I think it's possible to cook your own meal if necessary.
Location - the hotel is just round the corner of the famous Shirasaki Ocean Park, we even had a good view of the park from our room. There's parking space right in front of the hotel building, so it's very handy. We cycled to the Shirasaki Ocean Park then to the hotel, so it worked out perfect. There's a very steep slop going up to the hotel though, but it wasn't an issue for us as we pushed out bikes up.
Facilities - this is a family run hotel which believes was built a while ago, so can't compare it to all those new built hotels. The ”room” we stayed is more like a mini flat, it has a big kitchen, good sized bathroom with changing area, a separate toilet, a living room, bedroom and an extra ”sitting” area. The entire flat is in traditional Japanese style which we loved, and it has all facilities that made our stay comfortable. It also has coined washing machine and driers. We could even access to rooftop on the 4th floor to view the sunset. If you're looking for a quiet place to have quality time, then this is a good place to do so. There's also ”public bath” within the hotel, it's small but wasn't an issue for us. There's also shower and bath in the room also if you want some privacy.
Food - all food was cooked and prepared by the hotel owner, and she's a talented chef! Dinner was impressive, breakfast was standard.
The hotel owner is very friendly and lovely, it's definitely ”the place” to stay if you're visiting the area. We highly recommend it.
TTrissyIt was out of our expectation. It is a standalone apartment that has everything you need. It is better to register all the guest’s information online via the email. That will make your check-in more convenient. We were impressed with the backyard. We planned to have dinner there. Unfortunately, it was cold and raining. We definitely wanna stay there again. It’s at a very great location, close to the shopping center, and the bus stop of Kumano hiking, just in a few mins walk. Even you don’t do hiking, it is also good for a bunch of friends for a retreat.

TThomasThe hotel is situated at a secluded corner of Wakayama prefecture. It is much preferable to drive here rather than relying on the infrequent hotel shuttle. Public transport is otherwise non existent.
There are no restaurants around the hotel. However the hotel provides delicious meals with abundant fresh seafood. The in room dining experience is superb. The hotel staff service is impeccable.
The room has a spectacular sea view allowing you to see the sunset on clear days. The onsen also faces the sea which provides a relaxing experience.
A downside is that the hotel does not seem to sanitize the slippers for indoor use. All hotel guests had to change to their slippers to access their indoor facilities.
GGuest UserYou need to stay at Shojoshin-in if you come to Koyasan! There's an English speaking receptionist when you check in, a Chinese monk and you can always use google translate to communicate with the Japanese-only staff/monks! There's goma prayers at 1pm, a tour of the temple only for lodgers at 4pm, dinner served at 530pm (& the food is super flavourful), you can do sutra copying in your room (pay at reception) and pay for a handwritten goshuin as well! Shojoshin-in is the closest temple to Okunoin's entrance so its super convenient to do a night tour (run by an external vendor). Main doors close at 5pm but you can enter through the side door. I met a Japanese lady whom stays only at Shojoshin-in when she comes to Koyasan every year! I miss this place already :(
