Hotels With spa in San Jose, Costa Rica

If you're looking to explore San Jose, or have a basecamp for exploring the rest of Costa Rica, this hotel offers a great central location, situated right in the middle of San José. Good for walking to restaurants or shops in the city, or joining one of the several sight-seeing excursions which can be easily arranged by the hotel. The rooms are nice, though the decor is a bit dated. The common areas are also well designed for lounging while reading a book or getting to know your fellow travelers staying on the same floor. The breakfast buffet was fairly common for a hotel offering breakfast in Costa Rica, but good, and the area also doubles as a bar at night. Other amenities include a gym with free weights and a couple machines, along with two saunas, one dry and one steam.

We were informed after the cancellation deadline that they would not be providing shuttle service. We had to take a taxi for 35,000 CRC and they refused to refund us. The buffet was just average; we expected better given our previous experiences with the chain. The sheets were stained, and we had neither washcloths nor hand towels. For one night, it's acceptable.

The hostel is very nice and stylishly furnished and is very well located near the city center, so that all the big museums and the theater as well as many bars, cafes and restaurants are within walking distance. It is a hostel, so you can't expect absolute peace and quiet, but I didn't find it disturbing. Street noise is negligible. The staff is very friendly and helpful, everything is clean. By car from the airport, the journey takes about 40 minutes outside of rush hour.

The hotel is safe and there is security at the door. The room is simple but spacious. The breakfast buffet is quite satisfactory. The highlight is papaya, pineapple and watermelon. In addition to the front desk, the hotel staff do not speak English (Spanish). Turn left at the end of the corridor on the floor and there is a water dispenser, despite the sign in the room: Costa Rica is one of the few countries in Latin America where tap water can be drunk directly. In addition, the hotel offers a free shuttle bus to the nearby commercial neighborhood, and needs to make an appointment with the front desk.

The hotel is ideally located in the middle of the Valley of San Gerardo de Dota and always managed by the pioners' defensors who ”decovered” the valley in the 1950s. We chose this hotel for its proximity to the Los Quetzales National Park and finally we stayed in the magnificent valley of San Gerardo de Dota, which hosts quetzals a year thanks to the presence of Guatemalan lawyers - whose fruits they eat. The hotel's area includes a garden designed for the many colibris, a variety of walkways, some of which are particularly attractive to ornithologs, and a mirador with a magnificent view of the valley.
