based on 13 reviewsShaanxi Nature Museum is a public welfare institution invested and constructed by Shaanxi Investment Group Co., Ltd. It is now a national first-class museum and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, having been awarded honorary titles such as "National science education base" and "National ecological environment science education base". The museum is located at 88 Chang'an South Road, Yanta District, Xi'an, on a boat-shaped roundabout, and was opened to the public in 2008. The venue's architectural design resembles the characters for "sun" and "moon", symbolizing "the sun and moon shining together". With a floor area of approx. 27,000 m², it consists of "three halls, one center, and one zone": the nature exhibition hall, the Bellin exhibition hall, the science exploration center (under construction), the dome theater, and the outdoor science experience area.
The nature exhibition hall engages in a dialogue with history and natural science through nearly 3.7 billion years of specimens. With three main themes—"Earth evolution," "Biological evolution," and "Ecological civilization"—it showcases the history of natural development and tells the story of humans and nature. It features seven permanent exhibition halls: Geological wonders, Paleontological corridor, Insect kingdom, Magical Qinling, Prehistoric exploration, Light of the coal sea, and Light of life. The displays include mineral specimens such as granulite, the "ancestor of rocks," as well as precious fossils like ichthyosaurs, pterosaurs, Mamenchisaurus, Ginkgo-like plants, and Neocalamites. Rare specimens of Qinling giant pandas, golden snub-nosed monkeys, takins, crested ibises, dove trees, and Kingdonia uniflora are also exhibited, presenting a vibrant panorama of Earth's evolving life species.
The Bellin Pavilion houses rare wildlife specimens from various continents donated by international philanthropist Mr. Kenneth Eugene Bellin. With the theme of "Planet·Nature·Symbiosis" and the narrative thread of "Journey with animals," the exhibition is based on global wildlife specimens and enhanced by immersive display methods. It is divided into 10 exhibition zones: Colorful Eurasia, Wild Africa, Majestic Americas, Enigmatic Arctic, Mysterious Australia, Laws of survival, Rhythm of rivers and seas, Dome theater, Path of the brave, and Interactive experience, showcasing over 700 rare wildlife specimens from around the world.
The outdoor science experience area features zones such as aerospace technology experience, mineral and fossil appreciation, rare plant appreciation, dinosaur dream quest, and petting zoo. Shaanxi Nature Museum opens the door for visitors to explore the mysteries of nature and marvel at the wonders of species with its rich collections and high-quality services.
