The buildings on this section of the road look relatively new, and they were all rebuilt after the Edinburgh fire in 1824. 2⃣️ There is a market cross (Mercat Cross) on the east side of the church across the street from the City Council compound. It was once the place where Edinburgh City Council announced important public announcements. It used to be in every city in Scotland, but here in Edinburgh it is also the place where the royal family and the Parliament announce the national announcements. .3⃣️ Under the statue of Adam Smith, a street artist threw himself into the saxophone. In the distance is the Troon Church, which has been changed to a small market. 📍 The street facing north and south at the crossroads in the east was formerly the location of the ancient city wall of Edinburgh, and then went east to the city gate. Of course there are no city walls and gates now, but there is a World End Lane (World's End Close) at the southwest corner of the intersection, and the bar next to it is named after it.
