The temple was originally called "Kaiguo Temple", also known as "Zhenbei Temple", until the post-Li Dynasty period in 1440 (Ming Orthodox five years) changed to "Anguo Temple", 1616 (Ming Wanli forty-four years) after Emperor Li moved the temple to the current "Goldfish Island" and changed the name.
