It's a nice temple with a quiet.
Original Text
This Hogenji Temple is the temple in the back of Matsumae Park in the back of the temple town. We visited on the first day of the Matsumae Sakura Festival, and the park was crowded, but few people visited the back of Teramachi, and it was very quiet around here. The garden in the precincts was a nice temple. This Hogenji is said to be the family temple of the Matsumae feudal lord. Therefore, further back of the temple was the "Tomb of the Matsumae feudal lord Matsumae family".
In the back of Matsumae Park, there are several temples lined up in the temple town. The temple in the back of the temple town is this Hodoji Temple. As it is written at the entrance of the gate as "Matsumae feudal lord's family temple", this temple is said to be the family temple of the Matsumae feudal lord. The gate of this temple was also a nice gate with a long history, just like the gate of Hogenji Temple next door, which is said to be the oldest in Hokkaido. Since it is the family temple of the Matsumae feudal lord, there was a graveyard of the Matsumae feudal lord next to this temple.
The cherry blossoms and the people are small and solemn atmosphere

I visited a temple in a corner of Teramachi in Matsumae in early May, but the cherry blossoms in the precincts were less than Kozenji, Ryuunin, and Hogenji, and there weren't many people visiting it. It was a bitter atmosphere. It may be a temple of the family temple that refrains from the Matsumae clan graveyard behind it. However, it has the same splendid mountain gate, and the precincts have a solemn atmosphere and are very calm. If you have time to visit Teramachi, please go around this temple and taste the atmosphere. ...
The gates of Hodoji Temple and Hogenji Temple still exist as buildings built in the mid Edo period.

The statue of the four heavenly kings is placed at the mountain gate, and the prayer tablets of the Matsumae family are enshrined in the Goreiya, from the founder of the Matsumae family ・ Nobuhiro Takeda to the 18th Tokuhiro Matsumae. During the Hakodate War, it was destroyed by fire after leaving the Goreiya and the mountain gate. In addition, the mountain name is Mt. Matsumae, and the gate of Hogenji Temple is also exempted from the burning of the Boshin War. It is one of the oldest buildings in Hokkaido and is designated as an important cultural property as it was built in the mid Edo period.
It is a temple that is the family temple of the Matsumae family, the feudal lord. There is also a graveyard of the Matsumae family, the feudal lord of Matsumae, in the precincts. It was built in the 1800s, so it's unexpectedly new, but the mountain gate, where the trees are bare, is integrated with the surrounding trees 々 and has an atmosphere.
