Honestly, the area has little to offer for anyone looking to "get away from it all." This museum was lacking in several key demographics. I'd stay clear away from Ruidoso.

Interesting side activity while visiting Fox Cave
The River Museum has some interesting and informative exhibits. It only takes a few minutes for each exhibit. There are some good photo opportunities.
