What travelers say:

Baldwin Lake Ecological Reserve is a nature preserve just north of Palm Springs that is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. It protects an area of great biological diversity where the Mojave and Sonoran deserts meet. The canyon itself is lush and green, in contrast to the desert mountains surrounding the canyon. The preserve is open during daylight hours and has about 10 miles of hiking trails. To protect the unique wildlife, dogs are prohibited. We stopped to do a short hike here on the way to Joshua Tree. The wildflowers were really blooming and the canyon was just beautiful. Would definitely like to explore the canyon more if visiting the area again.
