Black Mountain is a large mountain visible from all over San Diego. It is nestled in the quiet neighborhood of Rancho Penasquitos.There are miles of hiking/biking trails that cover the entire mountain. I would recommend this as nice leisurely hike. The main hike (West Side) is a fire road, but there are other trails on the Northern side.Start early because it can get hot, and there is very little shade. A You will be rewarded with views as far as Santa Catalina island.

Wonderful hike this morning. Although it took a while to find the trail we were supposed to go on and ended up taking the service road (unknowingly), still beautiful and a great workout!
