Wang's Little Garden

Wang's Xiaoyuan was the residence of the salt merchants in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. The owner of the house, Wang Zhuming, was originally an Huizhou merchant, so here you can enjoy the architectural style of the combination of the three carvings of Huizhou and Jiangnan gardens. The integration of Western-style furniture is another feature. In addition, you can explore the secrets of salt merchants, find treasure caves, basements and many other organs. Wang's Court is located in the Dongquanmen Historic District, which is parallel to and not far from Dongguan Street. It is said that there is a garden in Dongguan Street, and there is Wang's Garden at the East Circle Gate. However, there is not a garden with many people in Wang's Garden, which is suitable for tourists who like tranquility. The gate of Xiaoyuan is simple and unpretentious, but once you enter it, it is different. First of all, I saw a beautiful brick-carved Buddhist shrine embedded on the wall facing us. Then I turned to the right, and it was a small garden. The pebbles on the ground made up various patterns that imply happiness, longevity and well-being. From April to May, I went to Yangzhou to enjoy Qionghua flowers. It's a good time, and there is a hundred-year-old Qionghua in the garden. Behind the small garden is the main building of Wang's Xiaoyuan, which is arranged in a nine-square grid. The Shude Hall in the first row is the room for receiving guests. Between the 6 "grids" on the left and the 3 "grids" on the right of the "Jiugongge" is a north-south alley of fire. The long and narrow masonry alley gives people a deep feeling of a courtyard, and tourists love to take pictures here. The buildings on the East Road are quite special. Wang Zhuming’s eldest son, Wang Taijie, led three younger brothers to renovate it, and it has the characteristics of combining Chinese and Western styles. The first room on East Road, Chunhui Room, has German chandeliers. The room behind Chunhui Room has sliding doors and sliding glass windows. In summer, the glass can be removed and replaced with screen windows. If you look around carefully, you can also find a treasure hole 1.5 meters deep under the wooden floor of a wing room. Turning right out of East Road is the kitchen. From the five cauldrons, you can see the prosperity of the Wang family at that time. Out of the kitchen is the back garden. There is a well in the east garden of "Xiaoyuan Chunshen", and there is a servant's room at the back. The bathroom to the west of the servant's room is covered with Western-style tiles, and the bathtub is imported from France. There is a basement for the owner to hide in the west garden of "Xiaoyuan Chunshen". The study in the north of the garden is equipped with western-style stained glass windows, and a secret door is hidden behind the mirror in the northwest corner of the room. Visitors can be seen directly from Huoxiang, which is directly opposite to the study. If there is danger, the owner can escape from various organs. After you have seen the sedan chairs at the west end of the West Garden of "Xiaoyuan Chunshen", you can turn back from the west road of the main building, and visit Xiazhong Road. Walk from the boat hall to the small garden "Kexixiu" in the southwest corner of Wang's Xiaoyuan. Like all gardens in the south of the Yangtze River, the garden is dotted with rockeries. After such a circle, the entire Wang's Xiaoyuan is almost visited. If you go out from the back door of "Xiaoyuan Chunshen" in the back garden of Wang's Xiaoyuan, it is the Yangzhou Paper-cutting Museum, which does not belong to Wang's Xiaoyuan, but you can visit it if you are interested.
