The house was idle and dilapidated after the death of his grandfather, father, uncle and mother, and the front row of two houses was damaged by uninhabited. After the founding of New China, the government took back the former residence and repaired it. On May 25, 2006, it was announced by the State Council as the sixth batch of key cultural relics protection units nationwide.

Li Xiannian's former residence is located under the Hongmazhai, 15 kilometers southwest of Zhandian Town, Hong'an County. The building is a narrow and long courtyard structure. Li Xiannian, born on June 23, 1909, was born in the village of Changfeng village, Gaoqiao Town, Huang'an County, Hubei Province, a poor peasant family. When he studied carpentry in his hometown in 1925, he was influenced by the Huang'an Working Group of the Communist Party of China and began to join the revolution. In the autumn of 1927, Li Xiannian led his peasants to the famous jute uprising and joined the Chinese Communist Party. During the war years, Li Xiannian had been engaged in military struggle and was a prominent general of the People's Army led by the Communist Party of China. He is brave and good at fighting, and has been outstanding. At a major historical juncture, he is not afraid of sacrifice, brave to carry the burden, dare to fight, and build wonderful achievements. In the early days of the founding of New China, Li Xiannian presided over the comprehensive work of the Party, government and army in Hubei Province, transferred to the Central Committee in 1954, served as Vice Premier of the State Council for 26 years, and served as Minister of Finance for nearly 20 years. Since then, he has held important positions such as vice-chairman of the CPC Central Committee, Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, chairman of the state, and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.
