Swayanblatt Temple or Monkey Temple has a long history and is one of the oldest religious buildings in Nepal. According to historical documents, it was built by the first generation of King Mnadeva (464-505AD) of Licchavi Kingdom of Nepal. It should have a history of 1500-1600. According to the Indian epic, the bottom of the ancient Kathmandu Valley was a huge lake. A lotus rose slowly from the lake. Later, the Buddha and Bodhisattva of wisdom and knowledge waved their swords, opened up a mountain and formed a huge canyon. The water of the lake poured out along the canyon, forming a rich valley - Kathmandu Valley. The lotus flower transformed into a hill, now Swayamb Hill. The lotus flower became a Buddhist pagoda on the hill. He left some hair on the hill. His hair was covered with lice, which later became monkeys and passed on from generation to generation. There are two paths to the monkey temple. One is a 365-grade climbing stone step. The other is the driving road. We took a few steps up the hill to a circular pool, a small white pagoda and a Buddha's eye, with a big pagoda at the top. There is also a wooden Hindu Temple behind the Great Buddha Pagoda, the Temple of the Celestial Flower (the front can not be photographed). The Monkey Temple is really a monkey temple. The monkeys are in groups, playing and foraging around the big Buddhist pagoda. And from time to time there was a shrill roar. The most unforgettable thing about the Great Buddha Pagoda is the Buddha's eyes on the pagoda. They look at all living beings and see everything. The observation platform at the top of the Monkey Temple has a very wide view and a panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley.
Swayanblatt is one of Nepal's world cultural heritage sites. It means "auto-luminescence". Built 2500 years ago, the temple is the oldest Buddhist temple in Nepal. Because there are many monkeys in the temple, it is named Monkey Temple. Legend has it that the Kathmandu Valley used to be a large lake. A small island in the lake was full of Golden Lotus blossoms. The Great Day Buddha came here to show its sanctity. Later, the lake retreated and formed the Kathmandu Valley. The island became a small hill. The believers built a temple on the top of the mountain, which is now the Swayambuna Temple. Because there are hundreds of wild monkeys regularly fed by monks, commonly known as "Monky temple". The base of the tower is a white hemisphere covered with bowls, and the height of the tower is 10 meters. The circular symbol "ground" on the first floor of the base, the square symbol "air" on the second floor, the triangle symbol "water" on the third floor, the umbrella symbol "fire" on the fourth floor, and the spiral symbol "life" on the fifth floor. The tower body is the apex of the square pedestal, which is brilliant. The pagoda is painted with Nepalese eyes on all sides. The pyramid is a thirteen-layer gold-plated wheel ring, representing thirteen levels and knowledge. This is the way to Nirvana. A huge gem is embedded in the apex of the umbrella cover on the top of the pyramid, representing Nirvana.
Because there are many monkeys, also known as monkey temples. The Buddhist Pagoda in the temple is one of the most magnificent Buddhist holy places in the world. The four-day God pagoda has the most perfect Nepalese eye. Overlooking Kathmandu, insight into all directions. Located on the top of a hill near the city, it overlooks the whole of Kathmandu. It is a temple where Buddhism and India coexist. Because there are many monkeys living here today, it is called the Monkey Temple. I'm afraid I've done something to provoke them. And the monkey, totally not afraid of people, he walked away, did not come to talk to us, the sun just shined on the face of Buddha, shining golden. The terrain is relatively high, overlooking Kathmandu. The earthquake in 2015 did not seem to have hurt the monkey temple. The dense buildings are colorful. This is a holy place for Buddhists, where many local people worship devoutly.
Nice place with Buddhist environment. Lot of space and good view from the top. There are small shops to buy souvenirs. Several restaurants, coffee shops also available inside. Secure motorcycle parking available. No need to buy a ticket to enter the place. There are monkeys but they will not disturb you.
Swayambuna Temple, located on a hill about 2 kilometers west of Kathmandu Metropolitan Area. This is the oldest Tibetan Buddhist temple in Nepal. It has a history of more than 2500 years and has been listed as a world cultural heritage. The environment here is good, suitable for the survival of monkeys, and there are many monkeys, also known as "monkey temple". When we arrived, we were ready to bring a lot of food to the monkeys. As a result, the monkeys who were robbed of food were immediately empty. The monkeys who grabbed the food were delighted to eat. It was very popular. Everyone took pictures all the time. It was a great pleasure here.
Tickets are close to the top of the hill to buy Indian countries 150 other countries 1000, but it's worth the hilltop to overlook the entire Kathmandu Buddha Pagoda. It's also very shocking. Many monkeys are very careful about their hand-held items. It's advisable to take a taxi. We walked from Tamil for 40 minutes and didn't walk to the side of the hill.
