Mihintale

Situated in the southeast of Anuradhapura, Mihindal has a long history and is also the cradle of Sri Lankan Buddhism. 1. Architectural tour The mountain is about 150 meters high, with 1840 steps left in ancient times. After the first step, there will be a partially damaged stupa on the right hand side, called Kantaka Pagoda, which is an older one in Mihendal, and its eaves are also very characteristic. To the south of the tower, there is a cave that separates a large rock, and when you walk past you will see an older inscription in Sri Lanka, which is still used as a place for meditation. Next comes the lower stairs, where the monks' dining hall and relic hall are located, and at the same height, there is a meeting hall where they gather and discuss topics of common interest. The last step leads to the Ambassahara Stupa, and to the southwest is the Mahasya Stupa, which is the larger tower here. On the way up the mountain, you will also see spectacular buildings such as museums, hospital ruins, and the Yindekatusia complex, as well as the stone beds where Mahende Changle, who brought Buddhism to Sri Lanka, meditated in the grottoes. 2. Large-scale events The Posang Festival in June is also an important Buddhist festival in Sri Lanka. Mihindal and Anuradhapura will hold large-scale religious activities.
