U Bein Bridge Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
City of Pagodas: Mandalay
A trip to Myanmar is a journey of the soul and Buddhist culture, washing away the restlessness deep in the soul and making it more peaceful and joyful.
Mandalay, Mandalay Province, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the second largest city in Myanmar, is not only the economic, political, and cultural center of Myanmar, but also a famous city of pagodas and a tourist destination.
Mahagandayon Monastery, also known as the Thousand Monks Monastery. It is the largest monastery in Myanmar. Every morning, tourists from all over the world gather here to witness the shocking scene of thousands of monks having meals together. There are no restrictions on vegetarian or non-vegetarian food in Myanmar's monasteries, and the monks eat whatever they receive as alms. There are two meals a day, at 4am and 10am, and only water can be consumed outside of these times.
Emerald Buddha Pagoda, the only pagoda in the world built entirely of emerald. At night, the emerald body emits a soft green light, bringing a sense of peace and tranquility to people.
Ubun Bridge, the world's longest century-old pomelo wood bridge. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world to watch the sunset. As the sun sets in the west, standing on the wooden bridge with your loved one, basking in the afterglow, it is so romantic and happy that it is also known as the "Lovers' Bridge" by the locals.
Mandalay Palace is mainly red and gold in color, showing the noble temperament of the royal family. Although it is not as luxurious as other palaces, it is particularly grand. Climbing the tower, the entire palace is in full view, leaving nothing to the imagination.
Gudutao Pagoda, meaning "the greatest merit pagoda in the world", has 729 cloud stone tablets inside, on which the Tripitaka is carved. If a person reads for 8 hours a day, it would take more than 400 days to finish reading them all. These stone tablets are also known as "the greatest books 📖".
Golden Palace Monastery, a stunning masterpiece of zelkova wood architecture. Originally a golden palace, after years of wind and sun, the golden color has faded, leaving only black memories: the carved figures on the wooden doors and windows are arranged in an orderly and three-dimensional manner, making this 150-year-old monastery a classic of wood carving architecture.
Beautiful Sunset at U Bein Bridge
U Bein Bridge has become one of Myanmar’s iconic landmarks, the bridge was constructed in the 1850s by a mayor, built out of 1, 086 posts, total length 1,200 meters acrosses the Lake Taunghthaman in Amarapura, and is believed to be the oldest & longest teakwood bridge in the world, the surface planks are from the old royal palace of Inwa.
I went there on January, because the weather is more cooler. The best time to see the most beauty of U Bein Bridge is in the sunset time, the slanting rays of the setting sun gave a warm orange tinge to the sky, gorgeous & peaceful, certainly becomes the most hunted photographed site for tourists and even locals.😉😎

THE OLDEST & LONGEST TEAKWOOD BRIDGE
A day in Mandalay to cap off my trip in Burma. 🇲🇲
📍 U-Bein Bridge is a crossing that spans the Taungthaman Lake near Amarapura in Myanmar. The 1.2-kilometre bridge was built around 1850 and is believed to be the oldest and longest teakwood bridge in the world. This spot remains one of the most beautiful sunsets I gazed on! 🌅
The Taungthaman Lake is near the ancient capital of Amarapura, and the bridge spans it. It was once the royal capital, but it has now been merged into Mandalay. The bridge was built around 1850 and is named for U Bein, the mayor who commissioned it. (U is a Burmese honorific that is essentially equivalent to Mister, except that it is earned rather than given, and it denotes someone who is esteemed in the community.)
Although parts of the original pillars have been rebuilt with concrete, the structure was originally made of salvaged teak from a nearby palace. However, a surprising number of the wooden pillars survive, giving the bridge its shaky appearance.
The bridge is still widely used by local pedestrians, but it is also a popular tourist attraction, particularly after sunset. Tourist-chartered small wooden boats glide under and around the bridge, lining up on the western side just as the sun sets behind the bridge's shadow.
The western bank is congested with souvenir dealers, tour bus drivers killing time, and restaurants.

Myanmar is a country with ethnic diversity and religious diversity. Most people here live a comfortable life. Create value through your own labor. The days of walking in Myanmar felt the enthusiasm and temperature of the people here. Although there was an accident, I returned home in advance. I hope to continue the wave next time.
