In February 1963, it was listed as a key cultural relics protection unit in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Ma Pang Drum Tower is the only drum tower in Guangxi listed as a key cultural relics protection unit in the country, and it is also one of the only three "national treasures" Yi nationality drum towers in the country.
