The Old Town of Warsaw is an older urban area in Warsaw, Poland, and it is also a major tourist destination in Warsaw. It is bounded by the Gdansk Riverfront Road, Grodzka Street, Mostova Street and Podwale Street on the Vistula River. The heart of Warsaw's Old Town is the Old Town Market Square, surrounded by restaurants, cafés and shops. The surrounding streets are flanked by medieval buildings such as city walls, watchtowers and St. John's Cathedral. The buildings in the old city were all rebuilt later, but this did not affect people's appreciation of its beauty. There are many attractions in the old town, such as the Mermaid Statue, the Royal Palace, the Old Town Square and the Marie Curie Museum. You can spend half a day in the old town slowly admiring the surrounding buildings and tasting authentic Polish specialties by the way. Out of love for the architectural heritage of the motherland, the teachers and students of the Department of Architecture of the University of Warsaw have made surveying and mapping records of the main blocks and important buildings of the ancient city of Warsaw. When the war broke out, they hid all these drawings and materials in caves. Although the houses and streets were destroyed, their image materials were preserved. The Old Town of Warsaw was later included in the World Heritage List in 1980 as a special case. World heritage is generally something that refuses to accept reconstruction, but the people of Warsaw spontaneously rose up to protect their national culture and historical traditions, setting an example for all ancient cities in the world, and also having an important impact on the protection of ancient cities in Europe.
