Photos of US Marine Corps War Memorial

The Iwo Jima Monument, located north of Arlington Cemetery, is a group of sculptures in a large green space. The monument was built to honor the fallen U.S. Marines in World War II. According to a news photo at the time, the image of 6 Marines who braved the hail of bullets to plant the American flag on Mount Oriba on Iwo Jima was created. The American flag on the monument is an actual flag, raised and lowered daily by soldiers guarding the cemetery.
