Zhuge Bagua Village Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
I stumbled upon a treasure trove of an ancient village, which turned out to be a TV filming location
After deciding to find a midway stop to rest for the night on the way back, I chose this place. Since it was night when I arrived, I couldn't see much and only felt that the ancient town was very quiet, without the noise typical of tourist areas, and surprisingly there were no tourists during the Qingming holiday. It wasn't until the next morning when I stepped out of the guesthouse that I was truly captivated by the beauty of this ancient village. It was only while wandering through the streets and alleys that I learned this was the filming location for 'The Great Ming Under the Microscope'.
📢 Attraction Introduction:
⭕️ Zhuge Bagua Village is the largest known settlement of the descendants of Zhuge Liang to date.
⭕️ Originally named Gaolong Village, the village is shaped like the bottom of a pot, with the middle low and the surrounding areas high, forming a pond at the center. This is the core of Bagua Village and also the base point of the 'Eight Trigrams Formation'. Half of the pond is water, and the other half is land, resembling the Tai Chi symbol.
⭕️ Centered around Zhong Pond, there are eight alleys extending outward, leading directly to eight earthen mounds outside the village, resembling the eight trigrams.
⭕️ Zhuge Bagua Village in Zhuge Town not only has a unique layout, but the ancient residential buildings in the town are also very rare. The town was originally built during the Song and Yuan dynasties, with subsequent additions and renovations, reaching its peak during the Qing Kangxi and Qianlong eras.
⭕️ The town preserves more than two hundred ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. At its peak, there were eighteen different types of ancestral halls in the town, most of which were ornately decorated. The Grand Hall and the Prime Minister's Ancestral Hall are among the most outstanding.
⏱️ Recommended duration of visit: About 3 hours
🎫 Ticket information: 85 RMB per person
⏰ Opening hours: 07:30~17:00
🅿️ Parking information: There is a parking lot at the entrance of the scenic area, 10 RMB per time
📷 Recommended spots:
1️⃣ Zhong Pond: Half water and half land, with two wells in the middle. This is the very pond featured on the poster of the TV series 'The Great Ming Under the Microscope'.
2️⃣ Prime Minister's Ancestral Hall: The hall contains many Dongyang wood carvings, which are exquisitely crafted and lifelike. The hall's wooden beams are carved with scenes of the Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea, as well as Lei Zhenzi and Yuwen Chengdu. It is said that the villagers handed over the ancestral hall to the government to be used as a granary, and the sculptures were preserved to this day by being wrapped in lime and mud.
🏠 Accommodation recommendation: We stayed at 👉 Lanxi Yuzhan Guesthouse
The landlord said that the guesthouse was his family's ancestral home, with a pharmacy and a pawnshop, probably the most beautiful guesthouse in the village. The guesthouse is quite large, even with a swimming pool, which must be very enjoyable in summer. Oh, and the guesthouse is one of only two places in the entire town that sells coffee.
🥗 Dining recommendation:
Due to the town's pristine nature, there aren't many dining options, and the taste is more or less the same. 👉 You can try the Old Street Restaurant
⚠️ Notes:
1️⃣ It is recommended to hire a guide for explanations, as it is an ancient village with many interesting stories;
2️⃣ Good food and drink are unlikely, as there is basically no commercial development, and there were hardly any tourists even during the Qingming festival, so you might want to try your luck during the May Day holiday;
3️⃣ After business hours at night, you can drive directly into the village parking lot and park for free

Explore the Mystery of Zhuge Bagua Village, a Historical and Cultural Treasure of Jinhua!
🌈Hello, friends, I'm here! This time I want to share with you a super unique place—Zhuge Bagua Village! 🎉
🏡Zhuge Bagua Village is located within the territory of Lanxi City, Zhejiang Province, and is a super mysterious and down-to-earth historical and cultural ancient village! This is the largest settlement of the descendants of Zhuge Liang, and there are still more than 4,000 descendants of Zhuge Liang in the village! 👨👩👧👦
💡The entire village was designed and laid out according to the ancestral Nine Palaces and Eight Trigrams by Zhuge Liang's twenty-seventh-generation descendant, Zhuge Dasheng. It's super creative! The village is centered around Zhongchi, with eight alleys radiating outwards, forming the inner Bagua, and eight small hills surrounding the village, forming the outer Bagua. This design is unique in China! 😮
🏞️Strolling through the village, you can see many ancient residences and halls from the Ming and Qing dynasties, which are very well preserved, with more than 200 sites! Although they have been through hundreds of years, the layout of the village has never changed. The architectural style of 'blue bricks, gray tiles, horse head walls, fat beams, chubby columns, and small boudoirs' really makes one feel as if they have traveled back to ancient times. 🏛️
📍The address is inside the Zhuge Bagua Village Scenic Area on the 330 National Road in Lanxi City, Jinhua, Zhejiang Province (east side), and the transportation is very convenient. The ticket price is 90 RMB per person, but if you use the temporary parking lot at Beiloutang, you can enter for free! 🚗
🏞️Recommended attractions include Zhongchi, Dagongtang, Tianyitang, Kongming's Life Exhibition, Chancellor's Ancestral Hall, and the local culture exhibition hall Qingyutang, each with its unique story and charm. 🌺
🏨If you want to stay in the village for a night, I recommend the Lanxi Mushi Homestay, where you can enjoy the beautiful view of the entire Zhongchi, and it will definitely make you linger. 🌌
🍴As for food, the Ancient Street Restaurant is a good choice. Their farmhouse sausage, tofu vegetarian buns, stir-fried wild vegetables, Zhuge small fish, and brine river shrimp are all super delicious! 😋
💖Well, that's all for this share! If you are also interested in Zhuge Bagua Village, why not go and explore it yourself? It will definitely be an eye-opening experience! 👀
